Default What is a "Normal" Oil Temp on a Hot Day?

I live in Arizona and lately the ambient temperature has been in the 115 degree range which is pretty normal for June.

I've noticed when driving my 2008 c2s just around town that the oil temp is displaying about 235 or so on the gauge.

Is that about normal for when it is so hot outside?

When the ambient is only in the 90 degree range it seems the oil gets up to about 225.

Appears to be I live in FL where it was 98 for a few days, and always hovered around 235-250 not sure that outside temp has that much effect on the oil temperature these days however, I'll caveat this statement with the fact that I know nothing about engines...

My 997 runs about 225 @ around 80-90 ambient. At Summit Point last week one of the guys had a practically new S and his oil was up to 250 degrees after coming off the track at around 85 humid degrees. That sounds a tad warm for 0/40 oil to me. I have two front mounted oil coolers on my SC and it never got above 210. I think if I was tracking a 997 on regular basis I would invest in the center oil cooler.

cheers

Normal for me is just below 225. I can't recall ever seeing it higher than that.

This weekend in Temecula - 10something degrees outside - temp was a steady 210ish - either while driving up the 15 or tooling around the wineries...

Between 225-250 in Florida under normal driving. I see 250 and a shade over on the track.

Default track temp

250 at a track day just south of Houston 2 weeks ago. Car ran like a champ with the A/C on. A vette, Benz and superformance cobra repl all had heat issues. I have 5W40 oil. Eric at Eurocar werks who did the oil change after break in at 2k miles said he didn't recommend 0W40 oil for SE Texas. In normal driving I'm about 225 when fully warmed up.
