Another cooling issue all the 997 crowd should be aware of. The water temp gauge is bogus. It will stabilize at about 175ºF and sit there,--no matter what the water temp really is. If it DOES go really high then it will report actuals. It was designed in this way to keep the calls from customers to a minimum. Too many customers were complaining about temperatures, so they effectively blocked it. When it DOES become an issue, it will report. (Sadly, it prevents any sort of trending).

As you are aware today was very hot. As I was coming from Ventura into
Westlake it got as high as 108F! My oil temp went up about 25-35 degrees above normal with the a/c on. Yet the water T was exactly at 175F both when it was 80 in Ventura and 108F in Westlake...including up the grade. I was thinking about it at the time how that could be...now I though some special thermostat trick....I know the truth.

I am looking into upgrading to a 997 S and I have viewed a couple of vehicle history reports and noticed there is a recall for the purge fan. Anyone experience this issue or know how damaging or bad it can be? What is the specific problem with it?

Your fans will be on if the A/C is on. Turn the A/C off and the fans should go off (assuming the coolant temp is not hot enough to trigger the fans)

On the engine fan recall users are referencing... I was told the 1st setting didn't have enough torque to spin if there was debris stuck in the fan so the solution was to deactivate setting 1. The fix only allows setting 2 to work, which apparently has more torque to break debris free if needed.
