Default Just upgraded to 997 from 3.2

Hi Rennlisters... a little help needed.

Have just recently and rather reluctantly upgraded from a much loved 89 3.2 Carrera to a 2007 997 Carrera, the car has a couple of good factory options.

A couple of changes I would like to make asap has to be the ride height of the car and the exhaust (you can hardly hear it!) ...this is were I need some assistance.

I would like a good, load, DEEP sounding exhaust note and there seems to be alot of options, and opinions to which is best I could almost go for a complete muffler by pass - as most of the aftermarket systems still seem quite taim to me? The Borla sounds pretty good - nice and bass'y. Any coments?

As for the ride height, best option would be? I have looked at the Biltien coilovers but wonder if the standard shocks with lowered 30mm springs would work to start with? The funds are a little dry after the purchase.

Cheers from NZ

Regarding ride height, check to see if you can get the Porsche Euro MO30 sports suspension. It will be lower (and harder). I got one put on my 996C2 and it was a totally different car. Loved it.

I am selling a NEW Fabspeed exhaust bypass for the 997 on ebay. The sound is DEEP and it saves a bunch of weight. It is also easy to install and inexpensive.

Thank you for the advice - I have decided to start with the H+R springs to deal with the height the Borla Exhaust and the K&N cold air - any thoughs?

K&N "Cold air" is a waste of money. You already have "cold" air coming into the engine the way Porsche designed this car. The K&N filter does an inferior filtration job to get you more air movement. You trade engine life for some added breathing?

Thanks - this is the advise that I need, all to hasty to get these mods I think I will wait for some feed back before dishing out the $$$, the car is already great, but a bit more of a bark would be good.

I think you should enjoy our new car and wait on the mods as than you will truly appreciate each mod. I like to do one at a time and space the out to enjoy each little tweak I make to the car.

I performed similar mods on my 996C2 and am now considering mods on my new TARGA 4S

H+R springs Results: Looks great!!!! The felt that the handling was not improved. The ride was firmer but with this mod alone I felt that the car was not as stable on the track or with hard road driving. Do a search. Lowers the car but does not give better handling. I will take a more sophisticated approach on the T4S.

Borla Exhaust Results: I did Fabspeed and loved it. Sounded like a Porsche. I will do this again.

K&N cold air - Result: More noise. Poorer filtration. I would do the X51 airbox.

I also did the short shifter. I really like the feel and will do again.

Enjoy!!!

On the "6speedonline" forums Borla recently announced its release of exhaust and headers for the 997.
I've had lots of Borla's in the past, and so I ordered them.

The Borla's seem to me to have a deeper sound/note than the Febspeed etc alternatives - its this or the complete muffler bypass? the only thing I need to watch is that they are just about to bring in db resrtictions in New Zealand and am not sure if the car will fail its warrent of finess if it is to noisy, will have to check this out - my thoughs were to do the bypass and if I am not happy with it I have not lost a whole lot - can still do the Borla after.
