new 997 Evolution or Revolution ??
In reality, how different is the announced new block from its predecessor ?? The review at Drivers Republic .com describes the block as structurally much stronger. Direct injection and other intake mods have allowed for an approx 10% increase in power and fuel economy. The elimination of the intermediate shaft has seemingly resulted in a lighter and simpler unit; but how significant are these improvements ?? Will any of this address the RMS issues of the past ??
Thanks everyone

Evolution and nothing revolutionary on the new car too me. Although I am going to try and get an 2009 with PDK, Sport Chrono + with the -20mm lower PASM suspension and LSD.
A lot of cars have been useing LED's, a PDK style transmission among all the other new comfort/luxury features in the 2009

Kinda hard for me to say since I just got my 08 but I will throw in my 2 cents. The HP , MPG, and touch screen PCM are all no brainers who wouldnt want those. The styling changes I think are nice but subjective. The PDK is also subjective and I would imagine very expensive. PDK provides better perfomance by the numbers but what about the feel? The rest seems like a bunch more expensive options.

Hey Jack, I am getting quicker but not that quick! Rumor is the PDK will be a $10k option so if that is the truth they can keep it and I will stay with my Tiptronic for now and then move to another car like a Vette or something. No way am I paying the rumored $8-10k for PDK. I was thinking PDK would be proced around the same as the Tiptronic. Bummer!

That's surprising given that the tip is no longer an option.

Like I said it is a rumor I read elsewhere from a post where a guy has already ordered a 2009.

As a third transmission choice, Porsche could demand a premium for PDK. As a substitute for the Tiptronic ($3200 USD) it will be priced within a few dollars of its predecessor.

That rumor on the price from 6speedonline looks like BS to me. You can build a 2008 on the Great Britain Porsche site with tip to see the price for 2008 tip there. The UK price for PDK has already been listed in the press, if you convert GBP to $$ the new tranny upgrade for them is something like $760.00 over what the tip would cost here. Based on that, PDK + sport chrono plus seem to be the most economical performance boosts you can get for the car.
Unfortunately after talking to some dealers, they can't order PDK yet and don't know when they will be able to. So it seems like we might be waiting for a while.

Engineering and electronics wise, the new car is a significant improvement. Styling-wise, not so sure. The 997 was just about perfect when released styling-wise, not sure the new front and rear are an improvement. also, i don't like the new wheel designs. However, i wouldn't order a 997 at this point unless it was the new one, given the improvements.

True, but there's probably at least some pent-up demand for the PDK. If the dealers don't get that many of them, they'll be less willing to deal on the price. This could make it a $3200 option on paper, but a $5000-8000 option in real life.
