nyca,
I agree. I was driving the 09MY CTS V with the new LS9 engine and manumatic transmission and found the same thing with regards to the direction of up and down shifts. Completely counter-intuitive to me and I got frustrated with it and went back to full auto mode.
Somehow, it would seem that the industry is going to this standard. I just don't know why.

This is cool! It makes a car that did not look all that different now seem very much new and updated.

Thanks for posting!

I think maybe Porsche is catering this design more so to the mass public than the racing crowd. I don't know anything about racing, and it's certainly more intuitive to me to push forward for up-shifts and pull backward for down-shifts. That's the same setup in many cars with the so-called manumatic autostick. Hmmm...forward directional travel of the lever for (+) and backward directional travel for (-). How can that not be intuitive to the general public? It definitely sounds logical to me.

Reading through all the press info, it makes my '06 seem like an ancient dinosaur.

I really enjoyed that, thanks for posting it. The 09 year is much, much more then a facelift, that's for sure. I was planning to buy a used 06 - 07 next year but now I'm not so sure. I'd really like to have the DFI & LSD.

Any magazine reviews of driving experiences with the car with PDK? Porsche seems to have done a great job keeping this thing under wraps.

The pull to downshift and push forward to upshift goes right along with the paddles where you use your fingers to pull in to downshift and press with your thumb to upshift. Makes complete sence to me.

How long before someone sells an after market connector to reverse the orientation?
Maybe I am a minority here, but I find the VW/Audi/Porsche set up of pushing to upshift and pulling to downshift more intuitive than the BMW set up.

As you pointed out, it would be great if we can have two different orientation. Won't this be just a software programing for the manufacturers to offer a set up with two orientations? Maybe someone more technically oriented than I am can answer this.

The reason most people prefer the pushing for downshift, pulling for upshift is that when braking it's easier to push forward the gearlever because of the inertia on the body, the hand wants to go forward!
Mercedes uses a side to side approach, pushing left to downshift, right to upshift. Tried it in a couple of Mercedes, and seemed a very logic and natural way to select gears!

I think that user changeable orientation could be possible, but don't believe that Porsche (or any other manufacturer) would do it. A simple software glitch and it all could go very very wrong!!!!
