Default 997 key on my 08 C2 compared to other high-end cars

My 01 996 key design was somewhat acceptable due to its age, but an 08 997 ?

Entry level Mercedes and Audi have better keys than these.

Just came back from lunch with some buddies, and they happened to see my 08 997 key from the table. They asked me if I brought my 01 996 looking at the key. I knew my 997 key had no design whatsoever, but other people noticed it instantaneosly too. Since I liked everthing about my 997, I could care less for the design of the key, but every time I look at it, I keep thinking how much the manufacturer saved on their design team who was responsible for the key.

I like the 997 key. Simple, small and will get the job done. Only problem is the remote trunk release that may open the front hood when key is in pocket. The Cayenne key is relatively big in comparison.

If you're into other Porsche design products, you will realize that it is usually a simple but elegant design.

I like the design too, but yes it is too easy to accidentally pop the trunk when its your pocket.

I feel just the opposite Tim!
Our Cayenne key collapses and its design is sort of cool with the little headlights that glow when you unlock the car.
My 997 key does not collapse and I think it's kind of big.

Design looks fine.,Buttons are placed poorly..Im always opening up the front trunk in error and the quality is garbage ( both keys have fallen apart. To make matters worse I lost a key and the replacement ( Key, and programing ) came to $400 plus

That's strange Dave. My 997S key collapses into a mini-997 that can run around on the desk via voice command...

Overall, I like the key design. It's simple, functional, and fits in my pocket well. The Audi & Cayenne style key is just huge and uncomfortable to keep in a pocket with any other keys.

I dislike accidentally popping the front trunk from time to time though. Curiously, my Boxster key is almost identical to the Carrera one but I never accidentally open either trunk on it.

Yeah, pretty much.

Struck me that the OP epitomized something or other about certain segments of...

Enough.

It's ok, I'm over it now.

Agreed 100% about the crap key. My key on my $25K VW GTI was better (and didn't pop the trunk like my 997S key). Porsche should at least make the key all-alloy, or switchblade, or SOMETHING else. Part of the reason people buy Porsches is for the distinct nature of Porsche, esp. the 911 (flat-6, rear engine, unique shape, etc.). A nice, distinctive key would help hone that edge...

Well the facelifted model will have a "uprated vehicle key" per the recently leaked document. Not exactly sure what "uprated" means.

Maybe it'll be an "Emotional Control Unit" like in the Aston. I don't care about anything TOO fancy, just something interesting and not too bulky in the pocket.

Get up on the wrong side of the bed? No need to hold back, bud. Say what's on your mind like a man, instead of acting like a girl. Some say that bottling up frustration can develp into a disease. Btw, these buddies of mine already knew I recently got a new 911 if you're insinuating that I put my key on the table on purpose.

It's a friggin' key for gosh sakes! You guys are really picky! Do people actually LOOK at what key you put on the counter?
