I've sometimes noticed the same thing but these days I just let it go, and just recently I realized how lucky it is that I do just let it go. About one week ago I was traveling the interstate and in no hurry. I had the cruise set at 65 mph, the speed limit on that stretch, and I stayed in the right hand lane. A younger fellow in an Acura kept trying to get me to play, riding close to my bumper, then passing, then dropping back, etc. But, unfortunately for him, when he realized I wasn't going to play he dropped back and then wham, blew past me in a heart beat, except just as he did so he passed a state trooper. He braked like a banshee but it was too late, I kept my cruise on and calmy drove by as he was pulled over. And no, I didn't laugh at him, I actually felt a little bad for him. Maybe I felt bad for him because I related to how I have done some ahole things in my life and the only difference was that he got caught.

On the flipside, I have been pleasantly surprised a few times when people I expected wanted to hassle me have actually said really nice things, like "super nice ride you have there" or "wow, those cars look classy even when they are sitting still". So like life is, it is the good with the bad, we can't control the actions of others, but it pays to realize that we certainly can control our reactions.

Enjoy

Very well put.

The road is like the rest of the world... there are decent people and jerkoffs all around. We can only be responsible for our own actions and reactions. I'm not suggesting we've all got to play zen master in every situation, but most of the time discretion is the better part of valor, especially given the risks inherent to what amounts to an armed confrontation.

Yes, I'm sure I did show him, but the funny thing is I don't really give a crap.

If someone wants to tailgate on a relatively crowded road where a sudden stop for traffic may result in his hitting me and if the reason for that action is solely because I'm driving a 911 and he has a piece of crap, then yeah, I really don't see any harm in acting the way I did. Ignoring it may have served only to encourage him to do the same thing to my fellow 911 drivers and Rennlist brothers.

So, since ignoring is not my MO, I suppose I could have told him to go f#$% himself or perhaps I should have tailgated and then cut him off - but both of those might have led to worse outcomes. I wasn't armed so that wasn't an alternative and, of course, that might have been an even more "over the top" reaction.

So yeah, playing the "Porsche versus Subaru - which one would you choose?" card was all that was left to me and I had to act quickly. One never knows - perhaps he had pondered the decision of which car to buy for months and came down on the side of Subaru passing on the Porsche; who knows, so it may have been a legitimate point on my part.

If I see him again, I'll apologize, if you think that's the right thing to do.

K
I just think pulling the pompous card sucks on principal. I see you feel differently.

Thumbs up

First, as my wife says "it's not always about you." Sometimes people just drive fast. Sometimes you're just in the way. I just hope I'm not stereotyped with....

Second, when someone openly seeks opinions, they shouldn't attack the free speech environment they used to solicit opinions or dictate how others assert their "rennlist rights." I just hope I'm not stereotyped with....

Third, ego strokes only need repeating from the perspective of someone I just hope I'm not stereotyped with....

You should assert your rights as a rennlist member in good standing and only read threads which interest you.

Maybe some thread ideas are so good, they need repeating.

Just out of curiosity, in your opinion, who is trying to dictate what others do in this forum: the one who belittles the thread because something similar may have been posted or discussed a year ago, or the one who suggests that people read what they are interested in and skip the stuff they aren't and post on-topic?

And how on earth is a statement to the effect of "read what you like and skip the rest" an attack?? How thin does skin need to be to think of this as an attack? Personally, if I find a thread boring I am able to control myself, refrain from making disparaging comments and find another thread to read that captures my attention.

Your comments suggest that you did not read the original post to this thread, or have completely missed the point and purpose. FYI, this thread isn't "all about you". It was started because I think drivers of certain cars tend to display similar driving characteristics, and was wondering whether anyone else finds the same thing. That it went on for 3 pages with mostly on-topic posts suggest that the answer is yes.

And apparently commenting that G35 drivers tend to be very aggressive on the highway is an ego stroke. I should write that down because I wouldn't have thought that could possibly be interpreted that way.

I totally agree with Jlangmd. If your only contribution to a thread is to complain and belittle others for not knowing the history of a certain topic then save it.

In this part of the country a 911 is definitely a rare sight. I agree about the G35 drivers. Others that seem to get worked up are S2000 drivers and Mustangs.

I tend to wave to Corvette's and usually get a wave in return.Sometimes (believe it or not) they even wave first!

The most aggressive drivers are the SUV drivers. I usually just wave and go on my way. I'm sure they are just frustrated.

did you ever think that maybe some of them in the Hondas have done some serious work, they know what all your cars are capable of and you're simply a gauge for them. From experience with my old VR6 turbo golf, if I saw 993 turbo scooting down the street, I'd bug him too, I wanted to know if my car has enough for the 911 turbo of the time. I don't know, it's just when my golf was making 350whp I was out looking for prey call the time. I was proud of my achievement in making my car as quick as super cars of the time.

Now that you guys mention it, you're totally right about the Corvette drivers. I've found them to be very respectful and appreciative in their waves. I guess in a lot of ways, when one has a car like a Corvette or a 911, there is really nothing to "prove." Then again, as someone astutely pointed out earlier, the demographic of the driver is also a bit older, and probably more "established" in family and in career.

I did also noticed that I do get a lot more "fly bys" now that I'm in a 911, mostly from younger kids in whatever car they're driving... Chevy, Ford, Hyundai, Kia, Toyota... makes no difference with regard to make and model. I really think it's an age thing.

I always want to say to them, "Meet me at the track. Let's drive two idential Spec Miatas in a time trial, if your driving ability compared to mine really matters that much to you. If you lap faster than me, I congratulate you and announce to the world that you have a bigger p*nis than I do. If I lap faster than you, you promise me to stop acting like such a jackass on public roads."
