Don't know if you guys read the recent WSJ bit on vanity plates in the middle east. It appears they have a bidding system. One guy paid $14 Million for "1." I'm glad I live in the US where it costs about $50.

I believe this. I lived in Japan for 7 years, and somehow they regard the number "8" as a very lucky number, so they bid for tags with more 8s on them.
