Cayman
Just wanted to share my thoughts with you. I'm sure most of this has been covered in much more techinical detail by the experts. I am driving a Cayman today, as a service loaner. Very nice car. Different from the 997 in it's own ways, but not in a bad way. You can tell the Porsche DNA. I love the sound just behind me. It has also made me aware of all the rattles in my three year old 997. The car corners great. Have not had a chance to get it up at high speeds as it's not my car, but I'm sure it would feel great.
The more I drive the other models the more I am convinced that there isn't a pecking order, but rather a progression into different senses. Each Porsche makes you appriciate the brand in a different light. I would love to have each model in my garage.

Spend some time in a Cayenne S on nice country roads or cruising on the highway at 90-100 mph and you'll be shocked how well it drives.
Last year at Ira's autocross/driving school I was able to take the Cayenne S around the cones and do panic stop/obstacle avoidance maneuvers - it's simply extraordinary for a 2 1/2 ton piece of metal.
The Cayman and Boxster I drove at the event were also fantastic.
As for my 997,....it's by far my favorite in the line. I'm sold for life.

I also had a loaner Cayman and loved it. I would actually prefer that as my DD over my 997S but two issues: 1. I need the back seat for the little one from time to time and I track my 997S quite a bit and just love the 911 on the track. I am sure if I had a Cayman S I would love that on the track as well but the rear engine is just fun. Finally, I like to looks of the Cayman but love the looks of the 997S.

Who needs an M5 or an A8... get both in one Cayenne.

Drove my buddy's Cayman S the other day...great pulling power, nice linear progression, tight as hell, cornered like a dream....very impressive car. Would love to get that baby on the track for a day!

I love the Cayman group over at www.caymanclub.net a real class bunch of people and a terrific site dedicated to the Cayman.

If youre going to look at a cayman just make sure you test drive a BMW Z4M. I did and ended up buying one for my wife. Even up I might have bought the Cayman S, but the Z4M has 50 more HP and is
around $20K less once the deal is done. I would have loved to have another Porsche but I had to look at the test drives and the Z4M was just more fun and for the price it just cant be beat. There are some that might give pause with the BMWs styling but there are those that give pause to the Caymans styling.
Both are great cars but you have to drive both and see what car gives you the best feeling.

The price difference is about $10k, not $20k. Last I checked, 330 - 295 = 35, so it's not 50hp. Not that it does the z4m much good, I find the following to be spot on:
