In the 997 the system is pretty good. Def better than the 996 version. I went with a Reus system in the 996. I don't plan on upgrading the 997.

Agree with Neil entirely. I'm not an audiophile but appreciate good sound. The BOSE carries the engine sound well.

I heard a song on his SAT radio that I listen to from CD in my car, and the sound was pretty weak compared to that in my 997. I don't know how the 997 non-Bose system sounds, but I would definitely recommend the Bose system for those trying to decide whether or not to choose that option.
Not sure how you compare sound from different sources, but I have 997 with Bose and a Lexus SC430 with the Mark Levinson, and Bose is nowhere close in terms of sound stage and accuracy. Like someone else said, Bose with surround sound on has the overemphasized base which might be good if you like heavy bass, but in any other music Bose is just muddy.

The BOSE system in my 911 is nice - but the BOSE system in my S4 is GREAT!!!

Of course - more room for components, woofer, etc. in the Audi...

CD will always sound better than SAT radio. CD has full bandwidth and dynamic range, SAT radio is compressed with limited high frequency response. The Bose system is way better than the stock system but overall I would put it in the "not bad" category.

I am having a Reus system installed in my turbo right now as I am typing this. They ran into a snag and it looks like there is a hump in the sheetmetal that isn't present in other turbos so the sub box doesn't fit. Anyone else get the Reus system in a 997?

I have the Bose in a c320 wagon and I have no complaints; it's pretty good. I lack the Bose system in my C2 and notice the lack of the lower-mid range and bass. When you check off the loudness box, you get too much bass distortion/vibration. It also screws up most newscasts. My old e36 sound system was better than the base C2 in that you could adjust it to something reasonable.

I have ZERO regrets with the C2 system; I did not want to spend the dough on the upgrade and as I mainly listen to NPR, it's good enough for that.

i have the bose in my 997 c2s... it's not that good. it's good for a stock system, but my custom audio in my e36 M3 blows it away.

The system in my wifes BMW 745i was awesome. Subs mounted under each seat that produced very tight and punchy bass.

I have Bose and find the system OK. I do not like the boomy loose low end and the hard sound of the treble with the Bose system in my 997S.

i have the bose system in my '02 SL500 merc. like other bose car systems i've survived, this one has excessive low end, scooped mids, and a general lack of presence. i think one of the main problems is they use crappy microphones in-cabin to monitor the acoustics and make adjustments. for instance, in the SL the bass gets ridiculously loud if i crack the windows open with the hardtop up. on the other hand, with the hardtop off and the softtop down, the system finally sounds well-balanced and actually quite good.

so, if they designed and calibrated the system for one state, why bother installing a status-monitoring microphone? i'd have been happier with something that at least gave me more than merely bass & treble controls too. hello "midrange"!!!

the system on my 2002 cadillac (i think it was HK) was incredible, with mind-blowing dsp "spatial" effects that actually worked and enhanced the music; the HK on my '05 E55 wagon was average and allowed no real user control of the spectrum. for the money, they ought to give the customer a little control!

I sold my 997, but had the Reus level 2 system in mine (rear sub box + passenger footwell sub box + center channel + dual amps) and was very pleased. I found the Bose to be sorely lacking compared to systems that I have had in previoius cars. The Reus satisfied that need for me. The performance was exceptional on rock CD's, which is my primary listening preference. I wanted to preserve the stock look and have a better system. I don't know if the Reus system provides "value": you really need to enjoy music to justify the cost given the inherent audio limitations of the 997. However, for me, I never regretted the decision and made my other 997-owning friends extremely jealous. No comparison between the Reus and standard Bose system.
