Bumber hole?

Bumber hole?
I recently backed out of a driveway and the rubber spoiler underneath the front bumber fell off. While I was putting it back on and cringing about the scratches, I noticed a square hole about a square 2 inches under the passenger side. Is this supposed to be covered? What is it for?

Wasn't sure what to expect with this thread title. I know my bumper gets scratched turning if the incline is too steep. My bumber only gets chafed if I am on the rowing machine too long.

The black strip (the 'warning bar') will get a little beaten up: this scrapes on various bumps and driveways. I've only scraped the actual paint on the underside of the nose once and that was while parking!

1) Awful feeling. 2) Made sure nobody saw it.

Scraped mine the first day I got the car, I pulled in to a parking barrier on rest stop on I-87 and heard a crunch!!
Later almost knocked off the "warning strip" over a speed bump on my street.
What I have learned. KEEP SHOCKS ON SPORT OVER SPEED BUMPS, less chance of scraping at reasonable speeds and don't pull in very far at rest stops!
Don't drive the car, keep covered in garage and recoat with cosmo and paper protection, and drive a Yugo!

One good thing about a black car is that repairing scraped bumper bottoms is fairly easy. Previous owner (of course) had scratch mine quite badly on parking lot curbs. I masked off the area and gave it a shot of glossy black spray paint. Before, you could see the scrape when looking at the car. Now, you can only see it if you get on your hands and knees and look closely. My rule, never let the nose go over a parking curb. The car is short enough to allow parking with the nose in front of the curb.

My rubber spoiler (held on only by rubber tabs) and my driveway incline are not compatible...no matter how I try to "crab" my way in/out.
So, the rubber spoiler now sits on the shelf in my garage while the driveway incline goes hungry.
Since I stay under 150 mph 75% of the time, having no front rubber spoiler has not been a serious issue...yet.

Try doing this with an Aerokit! My lower lip now looks like a cheese grate went over it a few times.
Speed bumps and steep driveways are my enemy and have to try all different approches w/o getting hit from behind.
