Default Reliable valuation - KBB, Edmunds, NADA, etc?

There seems to be thousands of dollars difference from one source to the next. KBB gives the highest value. 996 forum says KBB values are not true market values. Edmunds & NASA values are thousands lower than those from KBB. Which is most reliable? Since car industries have used KBB for years, should they not be the benchmark?

In handling vehicle total loss claims over the years, I have found that KBB private party value is the closest figure to what the insurance industry sees as actual cash value for the car at the time of the loss.

for trade-ins, alot of dealers tend to use galves-these seem to be the lowest and tend to reflect auction results. certainly, you don't have to accept some of these prices which are seemingly too low and you can and should negotiate for a better price.

Rather than giving your car to a dealer at wholesale, you should sell it to a fellow rennlister for whole sale.

AFAIK, the only reliable market data is from dealer auctions, eg., Manheim, Adesa. Retail market numbers are estimated or anecdotal at best.

"The Black Book" is used by many dealers, is published monthly, and uses auction results for trade-in value. I've seen some dealers use consumer website values that sometimes have been lower for trade-in.
