+1; I do it and one must be VERY careful or there WILL be scratches. Having to pay that much attention is a PITA.

If it comes down to just having one car, then I'd rather not play golf than to deprive myself of a 911. I'll just wait until I can get a beater to go play golf or commute in. I'm a bit neurotic about my Porsche, so a beater is better served for the everyday duties. However, I did seriously consider an E60 M5 prior to getting the 997. Somehow, I had a momentary lapse spurred on by practicality and sensibility concerns. Can you fault a family man trying to do the "right" thing? We already have a sedan and a minivan, so I don't know what I was thinking. Thankfully, my wife (who knew I'm a long-time 911 fan) snapped me out of it.

You could always leave your clubs at the course (if that's an option), or do what I do: make your friends drive whenever there's a golf outing.

one last thing to keep in mind is that the m6 guzzles gas like it's going out of style. i used a quarter tank of 92 octane driving about 20-25 miles mixed city/highway. my friend who owns an m6 fills up gas about every 2 to 3 days. i'm not sure about your driving habits but just something to keep in mind.

have you entertained the new m3 or audi s5? i testdrove the s5 twice but found it to be front-heavy and piggish in city driving and also quite heavy on account of the all-wheel drive. at least it came in manual and featured a fabulous interior.
Test drove the 08 650i last night at the Beverly Hills BMW. To my surprise, it was fun to drive. The car was big and luxurious. I am sold on the 6, and I don't know about the M6 though since the fuel mileage is that of a 600+ lb SUV. M6 may be a bit poserly, IMHO.

I was satisfied with my 996 for 5+ years of ownership, and I still remember how ecstatic it was to get the 911 & drive back home to L.A. from Newport Beach dealership. Now I don't know if I can really sell the car cuz now I want to keep the 996 and get the 650i, which will be a little stretch, in terms of putting money in a depreciating asset, since I'll then have 3 cars. 99% of the people in my office stopped me from trading in the 996 for a 6 series ha ha. I guess having something is not as desirable as wanting.

Enjoy your 997.

I own both a M6 and a 997S, both are heavily moded cars, and both are fun. The M6 is a great GT car, and faster in a straight line than a 997S, though it is not a sports car. It does though like to be driven hard and for some the SMG can be a pain. I will say that the 997 is a better sports car, but it is not a better car than the M^ in every aspect.

Hmmmm... used Scion and a 997. Not bad... So guys with 911 do have a 2nd car. After all, study said Porsche 911 owners' average income is $200K/yr. After reading your post, I decided to just keep my spacious 91 300E over a new Scion. I put too much into the 300E and so many memories from college days til now. I think I 'll look at Scion drivers differently now as they too could be 997 owners

Yep. You said it. "not a better car in every aspect"

Both M6 and 997S? Whoa... you're a real sports car fanatic. For those two cars, you could easily afford one super car like the Ferrari F430. Maybe you already have a few super cars.

M6 and 997 have different purpose, which makes it a good combination. 10 years of Merc 300E sedan made me look for more driving excitement, which prompted me to get the black Vette, then the 996. I loved it. Even these days, days of driving in a cushy ride makes me miss the 996. But for me, the excitement with the 996/997 isn't there as much as I now have for the BMW 6 series. I think it's like one day you're into blondes, then brunettes the next day. Lucky you have both of them

Here is my 430 the day I picked her up at Algar Ferrari. and if anyone is interested they started the supercharger install on my 997S so, the EVO CAI kit is no longer needed and it is for sale. $400.00 includes shipping

By the way, this might sound strange to some, but the 430 is not a better car than the 997S in all aspects either

WOW awesome 430! I have been thinking of getting a EVO CAI. My car is a Tip and I need to check out one thing on the hook up to see if a EVO CAI will work...something with some extra tubes that run into the stock air box.

PM me your info please so I can contact you.
Thanks, Mike

Love the proper gearbox. Well played.
