I have a 650 and a 997S. I am a life-long Porsche owner and have owned several non-Porsche German cars. The 650 is a great car. It is a technology showpiece for BMW. It is very fast and has very good brakes. I would not bother with an M6....the range is only ~200 miles due to the V10 and the small gas tank. The 650 is plenty of car and has ~ the same torque as the M6.
The 650 is heavy ~3800lbs, and you can tell it's heavy compared to a Porsche. However, the creature comforts that the BMW provides in the 650 are almost all standard: Bluetooth, Navigation, Integrated IPOD, Parking sensors, etc. The I-drive system gets a lot of bad press, but I have come to appreciate it since it leaves the dashboard free of clutter. It is almost comical to get into the Porsche with its bazillion buttons after driving the 650 with no buttons due to the I-Drive. It has been rock-solid reliable, too. I can't say that about the MBZs that I have owned the last several years.
From a value perspective, it is way ahead of the Porsche. Of course, nothing drives like a 911 and I would not trade the 997S for a 650. I would recommend the 650 and the 997S. Different cars to be sure, but they are both fun to drive and I appreciate both. Unless you get a lemon, you will not regret a 650 if you are looking for a Luxury GT coupe.

I'm curious... Can I ask some of you guys who own 997 and 650 or M6 what age group you're in? And I take it most of you with multiple cars are married, right? Regardless, you must be top 1 - 3% of the population to own multiple dream cars like that.
Yeah... I deleted the M6 from my option. $24K+ price difference just doesn't justify it. I'd rather put that money toward the 997 C2 S fund. Last night, 08 650i had plenty of power when I floored it. V8 felt like my late Vette, but much more refined. Loved the sound of the rumble. Then I stepped into my 996, and this thing felt even smaller and shorter. It was rocking back and forth coming back home on Wilshire Blvd, feeling every bump on the road. I'm 6'2" and felt much comfortable in the 650. I'm happy for those folks who says they're 6'3"+ but fit in comfortably into a 911, but you gotta admit the picture just ain't right.
If I get to buy the 997S, I would probably go for the 750i rather than another 2 door. Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience on the coolest cars.
Cheers

Well lets just say I was born in th 50's got married late in life (have 3/12 year old twin boys), and my current 997S is my 39th Porsche. I will admit I can do like like practical cars, and I mod almost everything I own. I also have owned over 90 cars in just the last 6 years, (some for only a week), so I am not the practical type. If you are the 650 is a great car, for me boring, but I even moded the Range Rover. my wife is the practical one, I bought her a Maserati Qportte last year for Valentines Day, she hated it, this year she got a 7 series.

I've had a handful of 911 cars over the years. Enjoyed everyone of them.
I have strayed at times with 3 BMWs, including a M3 and M5. Both were exciting cars. The M5 is my 2nd all time best ride/drive.
While I was considering my '07 997 C4S, I also considered/drove the new M5/M6 and a C-series Merc AMG. A Cayenne Turbo also crossed my mine, too.
But, altho all these are wonderful cars, the 997 is just more fulfilling to me to drive on a daily basis. I have a F-150 (Ford 4x4) for bad weather and when I need to haul things. And, we have a '07 Merc C350 4matic that is the SOh's.
I plan to get another 997 next year. I love Porsches.

None. A Porsche was a lifelong dream for me. I had considered a Corvette before I could afford a Porsche but I got pressure from my wife, family and friends to wait until I could afford the Porsche. I bought my 997C2S without even test driving it. I had previously driven a 996 and that was enough for me. Now, I just traded in my 06 for an 07 tt and I hope I will be satisfied for a while now.

Clubs fit...believe me. 6.3 index here. Problem has always been the 42" driver. Best to remove the driver and put it in the back seperately. Carry/standing bags are fine. Staff bags won't fit. 2 carry bags at most, and that's pushing it.
Of course, if you go to the course by yourself, just throw them in the passenger seat; that's easiest.

As an avid golfer, I have gotten quite used to putting my clubs in the passenger seat. A set can also be put in the back with the woods pulled out of the bag. I store my clubs at my home track so I'm not transporting clubs everytime I play.
This is what I do. Clubs go in passenger seat or remove the driver, 3 wood and put on floor in back. Not the best system in the world but it does work. I have other cars but always want to drive the 997.

Thanks for all your feedback, guys. I made my decision.
Keeping the low mileage 996, and getting the irresistible & charismatic 997 C2 S black/black. Screw the golf bags. Woo hoo

LOL
Those were my rationale too. In a few years, 6 series, M6, 750 will be an absolute necessity after marriage. Not only do you live once, but you're only young once ! Gonna enjoy 997 to the fullest while single.
Cheers !
