Dealer's throwing in the 3M clear bra, what coverage should I ask for?

I'm not positive what brand my dealer used, but after 2.5 years, I'm not that pleased - while it's protected paint chips, it now looks hazy and dull while the paint still looks good. In addition, where it's saved my paint from larger debris scratches, it permanently scratched the film instead! I know paint chips and blemishes are not fun, but from afar, what I notice is the hazy film, not the little chips. Not sure there's a good answer, just thought I'd chime in, cause the thought of hazy, dull film all over my car makes me nauseous!
As with all proper film application, you can polish the finish to get it as perfect as possible, then wipe it down with IPA to remove any oils or if someone was foolish enough to apply a glaze before film application. After the wipedown, it will show the true condition of the paint prior to film.
Then it comes down to the film. 3M or Venture which 3M now owns. Followed by the installers.
If all conditions are right, the film the correct product and the installers qualified, your film will be damn near hard to tell it's on unless very close. Most films now are free of the orange peel look. (that orange peel was really to match the paint quality of USA painted vehicles)
I would have it removed and find a qualified installer do the work.
After taking a mudflap at highway speeds hit the hood, if I did not have film, it would be damaged big time. I only have a scuff mark to remind me and others why film is important.
Rock chips may sound minor, but any damage to the original paint is not a good thing. Although todays paints are better cured, any deep impact past primer can start having a bad effect later (if you keep the car).
Every so many years I have my film removed, re-polish the entire car, then apply new film. Each year, films seem to get better.
I highly advise anyone who really loves their Porsche to apply the film to protect it on todays roads or tracks.
Regards,
Deanski

I think way too much time is spent on which film (3M or VS) as opposed to who is installing it.

Anyway, there was only ONE place that I wanted touching my car and that was local. I weighed the pros and cons and rolled the dice and drove the 10 hours "unprotected". I thought I would be pretty safe as I mapped out a route that would keep me off the interstates for most of the ride home. since most of the ride was on a U.S. Hwy and the last leg, where it could be dangerous it was late enough that there was not a lot of traffic so I got home unscathed.
Personally, i'm guessing there would be very few dealers who I'd trust to do this. But that's just me and i'm a bit of a fanatic.

dealer offering free clear bra? hmmm, sounds like you left some money on the negotiating table ; )
since it's a freebie, i bet the dealer won't do more than the bumper and 1/3 partial hood. that's what they quoted me $1k for (for what it's worth, i'm flying naked).
good luck.

Thanks for the info. I am going to have it looked at and possibly replaced. One interesting note about the prep: the film also looks hazy on the headlights, so I did not suspect the paint prep prior to the application. That said, I really don't know what kind prep process or materials they used upon initial detail or before the bra installation.

c2cal, do keep in mind that if you purchased the car used, the warranty is likely not in effect (non-transferrable). However, if you purchased the car new and the film is a first owner install, then it should be covered. Good luck.
