Default Dealer claims Turbo wheel is lightest, but I've read otherwise here

What is the real story? What is the lightest official Porsche wheel option currently available?

For that matter, I'd like to know what each of the wheel choices weigh.

Edgy01 posted in a thread recently with the weights of the different wheels. I had thought the turbo wheels were the lightest but it seems not so much.

What a relief! Now you don't have to get those ugly wheels because they're not the lightest!

As you can see from the previous posts the Carrera S (lobster forks) are the lightest 19 inch Porsche OEM wheels at about 100 lbs for all 4 versus about 105 lbs for the TT wheel

Funny your brought this up because I have seen these weights listed here before. However I have picked up most all the 997S 19" wheels at my dealer. Also the Greensboro NC Dealers has all the Porsceh stock 19's out on display to pick up and handle. TheTurbo's seems the lightest to me. The Turbo wheels are also the only forged wheels from Porsche too. Out of the cast wheels the stock wheels felt much lighter than all the rest especially against the sport design...thos are super heavy.

5 pound difference. About the same as a little more than a half gallon of gas. I've never understood the concern about wheel weights when they are more than offset by many other miscellaneous factors that few people likely worry about. I would think the impact of 5 pound difference is lost in the noise. Can understand the unsprung weight thing, I think, although not sure how it translates in real life daily driving.

I agree 5 lbs probably not much effect...but the one-piece forged Champions probably are 20 lbs lighter which does make a big difference.

Actually, that is unsprung weight, which has more of an effect than the loss of 5lbs of 'sprung' weight.

Wheel mass might not make that much difference in a powerful car like a 911 but it's certainly noticeable in a small low-power car like a Mini.

Yes, I understand the wheels are unsprung weight, but I'm still not clear on how it translates into driving feel.

I agree. I think we should all have to list our own height and weight and compair that to what is your ideal weight for your height and build. If anyone here is over their ideal weight then you cant be so critical about saving 5 lbs of weight on your car unless you get rid of your own excess weight! I would imagine most of our cars would loose the most weight if we would get our rear ends on the treadmill! It is funny, guys will throw a fit or spend thousands to save a few pounds but the'll pull up to the track grease shack and throw down 2 burgers a fry and a 2000oz coke and then go squeeze back in their car.

I would imagine most of us would fail the test!

I'll start- 5' 11" weight 190lbs, medium frame- Ideal weight- 154-166lbs.

So this means that i cannot comment or be critical on any weight saving item that is less than 24-36 lbs, until i loose the weight myself!
