Default Supercharging

I am getting ready to add a supercharger and I am looking for some feedback from owners of either the EVO or TPC units. Please do not reply with, buy a turbo. This is my 39th Porsche (owned 5 turbos) and I do not like AWD sports cars, and I can care less about the warranty. I am looking for feedback on performance and reliabilty issues. Thanks.

The guy who owns Foreign Affairs in Florida put a TPC unit in a 996. If you live near here, you should talk to him about the good, bad and ugly. I drove it and it was a monster. I had a heavily modified 996TT at the time and his car was every bit as strong but the car had some reliability issues. Ultimately he ended up taking it out, but while it was in, the car was strong!!

Good luck!

You will get better performance, better reliability and your Porsche will still drive like a Porsche if you run the centrifuge system. And, as an added bonus, you won't have to turn up your radio louder to hide the noise coming from the roots blower. Roots blower will maxout on power long before redline. The centrifuge will keep pulling.

RUF? They've been doing it for a long time.

Carnut,
Definitely search over on the 997 forum on 6speedonline. There are a bunch of cars/threads dealing with supercharging the 997. Personally, I would go with the Ruf unit....expensive but they back their work with a warranty.

I will check out the other forum. My shop likes the fact that TPC is only about 90minutes from here, and I have read (not sure how true this is), that the EVO and the TPC units are the same, only the EVO is turned down alittle. I am hoping to make a decision by the end of the month and have it installed by the end of April. I am having the front part of the areo kit put on and have ordered the Vorsteiner rear bumper as well.

Hi,
My brother had one installed in his 997 4s. Here is his comment.
I would say my results have been pretty good but I still need to pull my CPU to have those guys at TPC mofify my card.

I was under the impression both EVO and TPC include ECU remap.

Hi,
TPC also re-maps. He wants to send his chip back because he keeps getting a engine warning light. TPC says they know how to fix the chip.

Ruf does a lot more than that. A Ruf Kompressor runs $27K installed (went up due to the weak dollar). They remove the engine and install thicker head gaskets to drop the compression 1.5 points. With the lower compression, they run .6 bar (8.8 psi) of boost. As a unique feature to the RUF setup, part of the installation include new intake manifolds. The RUF intake manifolds have an integrated air/water intercooler, versus the external air/water intercooled in kits by other manufacturers. RUF in addition includes a set of Hi-Flow cats as part of their setup.

EVO and TPS both sell their kits with lower boost for the stock compression engines. The EVO kit comes with bigger injectors and the ECU is reprogramed with a special GIAC program for the fuel management. TPC uses a piggyback UNI-Q ECU to modify signals to and from the stock computer.

All of these include a factory center radiator from a tip to provide water cooling for the intercooler. This provides a challenge for those with tips, X51s or those of us who upgraded to a third radiator for better cooling.

Thanks for all you help. I have decided to go with the EVO. I will keep everyone informed, and will post pics when the new front a rear bumpers go on. The front is in, now waiting for Vorsteiner rear bear
