I paid $1000 for enclosed shipping a 997S from Ft. Lauderdale to Pittsburgh, PA a month ago. The car was picked up in FLorida on a Tuesday night and I had it the next day at 11:45 PM. I arranged the shipping through Road Scholar, but they subbed it to someone else whose name I forget. I shipped a Jaguar from Pittsburgh to Seattle in 2004 for $700 on an open trailer. Last week a Lexus I sold went from Pittsburgh to High Point NC for $350 on an open trailer. John

Dan, I didn't know a Porsche would fit in a horse drawn covered wagon!

Intercity from Houston to Los Angeles in February 2007 cost close to $1,300.

Not the cheapest but certainly one of the best. Great customer service, very nice enclosed trailers and right on time.

Default link on classified page

If you go to the porsche classified page there is a link to request a quote for shipping a car on the left side (http://mall.rennlist.com/transport/).

I happened to notice it this morning since I was about to ask the same question.

No comments positive or otherwise... yet. They did get back to me very quickly..

Central FL to Austin TX enclosed was $1177.

Default Note to self...

So I went back and read the whole email I got with the quote. It was intercity.

So the link on the classified page takes you to intercity.

akim47,

The reason I asked that you look at the recommended thread was to steer you toward driving. So...why are you contemplating shipping? You have a chance at a great experience (and it's cheaper) by driving the car home. Shipping it is akin to trailering your Harley to Sturgis.

Make the time to drive. If you schedule it over a weekend, we're talking 2 additional days off from work. And, don't take the Interstates.

that's actually great advice... i'd love nothing more than to possibly do a cross country tour... i never thought about how much time it would take... right now i cant afford the vacation... i'm not always swamped, but kind of "always have to be here" so i don't have a lot of vacation as i am getting offically married and am going on a honeymoon this year... i could always call the road trip a honeymoon, but i think the wife is looking forward to hawaii...

around $1500-2000 is reasonable, but eliminates some of the savings from buying a car on the east coast... i've found better prices over there...

i'm also worried about cars driven in the winter... the salt, snow, etc....

maybe purchasing local may be a better idea....

Good point, if the car has summer tires, you would have to take the southern route for sure and then calculate the odds of making the whole distance without hitting any snow or ice. The odds are not in your favor. You do not want to get caught in a snow storm with summer tires.

very tempting... but i've decided to forego the opportunity. (see my recent thread on New Country in CT) I'm going to be real patient. We were patient not moving up to a larger house and that seems to be paying off... so I'm hoping the right car will present itself at some point in the future as well...
