Default Cost to ship a car across country?

Has anyone shipped a car across the country?
Let's say something like CT to CA...

Any idea how much that will cost? What about TX to CA?

Also, any referrals to reputable companies would be appreciated...

Thanks... I've taken the advice of some on the board, and have expanded the search nationwide...

Go to passport.fedex.com for an instant online quote, and use that as your benchmark worst case scenario on cost. They ship enclosed, and while getting an exact pickup date is impossible...the transit time is good.

I used Intercity to ship my E55 from NY to Vegas. They are highly though of and probably at the higher end price wise. If I remember correctly it was around $1,400.

I used Blue Highways to ship my 993 C4 Cab. Although mine was only PA - MI, I know they do cross-country.

$1400 from Dallas to San Francisco in enclosed transport. A search will generate many other companies used by members here.

I paid $1300 for door to door from Riverside, Ca to Middletown, NJ in an enclosed van via Intercity. That was 1 1/2 years ago.

Another vote for Passport/Fedex. I have used them 3 times with no problems. Good luck with your search.

Forgive the slightly question:

I wonder if anyone has, say, driven their car across the country and then had it shipped back? Helluva road trip I imagine.

Search for a recent thread that I started on the subject. Advanced search for threads by "Rick in Colorado" titled "ship or drive new car home from remote dealer?"

I would love to do that and have thought about it. Figure I don't have the time to do round trip LOL!

I recently shipped from western Illinois to Akron Oh(enclosed) using Intercity for $700.

Top notch operation in every respect. The wait was about 10 days from the day I called to date of pick up. Talk about painstaking detail....the Damage inventory sheet the Intercity driver fills out when they pick up your car will literally notate every speck of dirt on every body panel- I was impressed.

(word of advice- If inquiring w/Intercity, call their offices via phone for best $ quote.... the ONLINE quote I got from intercity was actually >$1000, but just on a hunch I phoned them a couple hours later as a separate inquiry & they verbally quoted $700 .. within 10 minutes they fax the paperwork, sign/ return fax, they do the rest)

I second the recommendatio of Intercity. They shipped all my vintage cars and not a scratch. The cost of shipping has really gone up because of fuel prices (duh). Intercity charged me $2,000 to ship my 1952 MG from Cal. to Long Island two years ago. In 2002, it was $950 to ship my Dino from Ft. Lauderdale to L.I.

On price, I think it depends a little on how you happen to fit into their schedule at the time, but I would say $1,500+. 1 1/2 year ago I paid $1,600 to ship my 356 from Florida to L.A.

Intercity always gets good reviews so I have nothing bad to say about them; others can be hit and miss. However, I HIGHLY recommend DeMoise Trucking (www.demoise.com); they carried mine and have carried at least 8 pcars I know of in the past 2 years, including quite a few RLers. Very careful and reliable, very personal service; call Bill DeMoise and inquire. (No affiliation, just a very happy customer).
