Take a look at the tires on this car. For a car with only 4k miles, is it me or does it look like it was driven quite aggressively?

This is from the car where the dealer was originally asking $76, and now asking $72k for this decently optioned 06 C4 with ~4k miles.

It also has the holes in the front from the license holder, and from the looks of it been driven hard. Just trying to gauge how I should treat this if I continue to pusue this car.

NO way those tires have only 4K miles on them...if they do, that car looks like it was "ridden hard and put away wet".....I'd ask for new tires for sure if I even went thru with the deal they look squared off

When I test drove it this weekend the car clearly had brand new tires on it.

That is not the issue, tires are not a problem to replace. What concerns me more was how this car was treated. It looks in very good condition otherwise (see this picture where its been cleaned up), and the interior is spotless. So from this we can say what? That it had the crap driven out of it?

Or should I also insist upon some kind of odometer check from a 3rd party?

Would a DME check and PPI (which is a must) put your mind at ease? If this is a Porsche dealership, then I highly doubt you'd need to worry about an odometer rollback.

its a well known major dealer however the sales manager said the car has not been pdid yet. What is a dme?

Also ask to see how many times it was driven past the rev limiter. If it had too many times past 7000 rpm I might walk away and try a different car. Just my opinion. I don't want to see you have a problem down the road.

Not to sound cynical, but what is to stop them from simply telling me that its never been driven past 7k RPM? I should insist on seeing them run the diagnostic? That could be an awkward conversation. Is this something people who buy CPO'd or used 911s do regardless?

DME scan reveals the engine overrev type and the frequency. That's arguably the best indication of whether the car had been beaten on.

Seems a lot of burnout or donut runs on those tires...? If I were you I would pass on this car. Better safe than sorry.

Yes - make sure they give you the computer print out showing the revs in each category.

Is the DME capable of showing all over revs or only within the last (n) number of miles?

How about this? Ask yourself one question: what would be the purpose of a DME that only records partial history?

its a fair question because in my experience audi doesnot offer full history in their ecu memory

Can you find the original sales paperwork for the car? My first thought was that perhaps it originally had premium rims and the owner swapped for someone else's lobster forks (and worn tires) before trading it in.

Edit: Eric over at BumperPlugs can fix that front bumper up no sweat.

It may have 4,000 miles worth of track work. If you're that concerned, simply look elsewhere. It's not like there is a shortage of available 997 C2/C4/C2S/C4S cars.
