RMS Revisited
Well . . . . After 13K miles over 3+ years of use my 997S 'finally' developed the infamous RMS leak. I thought after all these miles and time I was safe but after a long drive I noticed a few drops of oil on the garage floor the following morning. Had it repaired under warranty so it was no drain (pun intended) on the ole wallet. Tech claimed that the new seals are much better but I've heard that's not necessarily the case.
Had RMS leakage on my old Boxster (986) but it never dripped to the floor. Only under inspection could you see the oil buildup between the tranny & motor.
So, keep an eye on your garage floor and check frequently for oil spots. You might want to periodically inspect the tranny/motor interface while on a lift or ramp. If there is any sign of oil in that area it will in time get worse and result in a oil slick.

What did the sales staff think of a customer crawling underneath their showroom inventory?

I hope you ran, and not walked, from them! If they cannot have the cars on the showroom floor in order, I would hate to see service....

First off . . . Mine is a August 2004 build.
The last 3 to 5 numbers of the VIN (depending on total quantity built) I believe tell the production number of the car. Like I mentioned in an earlier post mine ends in 0337 so it's the 337th 997S built for MY2005.

Since I don't know the preceding characters/numbers I think your 997 is a non 'S' version based on your avatar. If it's really an Aug 2004 build it must be MY2005.
Being built that early in the production cycle it sounds like it should be #241 but I would think there would be a least one (1) a zero (0) preceding the 241.
I think RennTech.com has a VIN decoder that you might want to look at. It will tell you precisely what all your VIN #'s mean.

Thanks for the link. I tried it with my VIN#. it only goes so far as to say the car is an MY05 production. It doesnt give the actual production month/year. I found from the paper work-work that my car was 1st delivered in 8/04. So it had be be june '04 build. But how do i find out for sure? Is it on the car somwhere? I just want to know how much of an early build it is.
