Default Ipod connection OEM now available in Germany

Hi, rennlisters,

I don't know if you noticed, that since a few weeks it is possible to order an ipod connection with your new car in Germany ("Musicplayer Schnittstelle exclusive, € 416,50" (incl. tax, appr. $ 600)). This ipod connection is placed in the center console and includes a charging function for an ipod and works with the PCM.

I asked my dealer if it is possible to retrofit this connection in my 2007 C2S and he told me, that this is possible from MY 2005 on. I orderd one (price appr. € 550 incl. tax).

I actually checked on the Porsche USA the car configurator and didn't find this option yet. But why should it not be possible for your dealer to order the retrofit parts from Zuffenhausen and install it in your Porsche?

Best regards
Rolf

This is great news. Are their different voltages, etc with European models compared with US, or should they be compatible?

It's worthless. The Dension units (we distribute) are direct connected to the MOST bus and control is from the PCM for ALL of the iPod functions. Way too many threads on this already. Read on.

This box is not much more than a cheap fm transmitter with a Porsche label on it.

I'm all about going the OEM route instead of aftermarket spit-and-twingum solutions, but eight hundred bucks for an iPod adapter is borderline absurd.

As Eric said...this appears to be an FM modulator...there are lots of them out there and no where near the sound quality of the Dension unit.

Has anyone actually had one of the Porsche units successfully installed into their car? Or heard of it working with a CDR-23? Sounds like Porsche may not put this unit out, and they have very little information on it.

Default FM Tranny

OMG - if it is a FM transmitter and they are inputting via the antenna coax it's a bit crap.

I've got a Kenwood unit in this configuration and apart from general sound and noise issues, if you go on a long drive and into an area now using the frequency you have decided to use, it may stop working (assuming is P using consumer bands).

I't unbelivable Porsche is so bad with audio IMO. Becker is a joke, Bose is even worse, they are 3 years behind with IPOD and Bluetooth and they still havent as good a solution as the Denison!

If it's an FM transmitter then it really isn't worth 59 bucks. IMHO
