Default Fabspeed tips

Hi. Merry Xmas to all. Currently have an AWE system installed sans headers on my 997 and am thinking about acquiring some better looking tips than the AWE ones which came with the mufflers. Any suggestions? Am thinking of Fabspeed tips or OEM Carrera S tips. If anyone has pics close up of their aftermarket exhausts also please share so I can see and compare.

thanks and best wishes in the new year to all!
Rob

Frankly I think that the fabspeed and awe silver tips look the same. I am thinking of buying the awe mufflers, but I have a hard time justifying paying $500 for the silver tips....I think you are paying for the awe inscription on it. There is a dismantler in los angeles that is offering the oem carrera S tips for $99on ebay.
For that price, just buy it an when you get tired of the awe, do the S and vice versa.

Yes I did see the $500 price for the new AWE tips. I do agree on the price issues....I can add bluetooth compatibility for that. May look around. I would love to see more pics posted to see what variations are out there though.

I actually like the look of the old AWE tips but they seem to stick out too far...is that issue adjustable? If they were set back about an inch it would look great.

The shop that did them say the can't adjust them....I think I need to check another shop...tried myself but it looks like the rear valence on the non S 997 may be slightly different so the rear tips stick out more or so i am told. I think they could be modified but it may involve cuting 1/2 or 1/4 inch off the ends of the AWE exhausts.

Any thoughts?

The valence is the same in both cars. Adjusting the tips is not difficult....all you need to do is loosen the bolt on the bottom side of the tips (ratchet required), wiggle or tap (rubber mallet) the tips into the desired position and re-tighten the bolt. Might take a bit of elbow grease but relatively easy to do. However, there is always the chance that they are as far back as they will go....that might be the reason AWE designed new tips....not sure... Anyway, worth trying to adjust before you drop coin on new ones. Good luck.

Andrew...hey I have tried that....took a minute to get them off as they must have tightened the bolts with an air wrench or something...actually had to take the tips to a garage to have a mechanic use an air wrench to get the bolt free from the clamp enough so I could try to retighten them...however unfortunately when I tried to set them back they were back as far as they would go it seemed....the curve of the pipes coming off the mufflers doesn't leave much more space on them to go back any further. I would have to have like 1/3 to 1/4 inch cut off the ends of the exhausts to accomodate that and I am not to sure about how that would affect things. New re-designed tips maybe the option.

Thanks though.
