Standard Black Car. Good or bad?

"Black is not a color - it's a hobby" ...
I think that is a great description. I have my first black car - an 07 S - and have mixed feelings about it. I love the look of it clean, and am getting okay with it being dirty.
I knew I was in trouble, though, when I lovingly put the 4th coat of Zaino on and then was reluctant to drive it cause it would get dirty. I got over that! It's too much fun to leave it sitting in the garage.

The key to maintaining a black car is to not keep wiping it down as this mars the finish and becomes counterproductive.
Polish down to get all the marring out, go through the proper steps to restore the protection (the products and applications are endless). Resist the urge to wipe down or QD car every time it gets a piece of dust on it.
Invest in the best microfiber towels an keep them clean.

I have had black cars before. Like everyone says, it is a love and hate relationship. When it is washed and waxed, boy oh boy, I can sit in my garage and admire the reflection of the black paint for hours.
However, it really is a pain in the butt to keep it clean. Even cleaning it, the lint from the microfibre cloth will show on the paint! And even the smallest micro-hairline (even from a slightly dirty microfibre cloth) will show on the paint under the right angle of light reflection!
If I were to get a black weekend car again, I would definite wrap the whole car with Clear Bra by a reputable installer like Premier. I mean, the whole car. In case of any hairline scratches or paint contamination, I just go back to the Clear Bra installer to peel the film off and reinstall a new film on. Perfect paint again. Yes, I do sound a little too finicky, but this is probably the only way I would own a black car again.
With best regards,

I think it has more to do with you than the car. The more you fuss about it being perfect, the more you worry about an iota of dust or the slightest of spray or, heaven forbid, a nick or door dent, the more frustrating black will be when it isn't perfect and the more you'll love it when it is.
My basic black 911S is my fourth black car. Each time I've said never again, because I do like it looking nice and don't really get all the enjoyment from detailing that others seem to fine. Especially in winter, and my car is a daily driver. But I do love the color, can tolerate it being dirty (still haven't washed it since I picked it up in the rain two weeks ago today).
So, if you like the color, either resign yourself to a lot of maintenance and fussiness, or live with it in an imperfect condition.

damn, seeing all your shiny black cars really makes me wish i got black-- oh, wait, i do have black, just can't see it under all that grime and dirt.
black is awesome, but for someone lazy like me, a real PITA. in the end, though, i don't mind as i think the combo of black paint and dirt makes the car less conspicuous.
