PSE - General consensus on full install or not?
My PSE and X51 Headers have arrived for my 07 997S with Sports Chrono.
What is the general consensus on the PSE mode if you were to do it over again with your install?? Full installation or staright no wiring?
I know the PSE has been discussed many many times. But I need your help with the decission on the install. After reading all the threads on the PSE subject I noticed many people were disconnecting the valves to have on all the time. My dealer wants $800 for the full install which I don't mind paying. But I understand that the full install will be controlled by the DME and will cut out the PSE between 30-50mph and will be in sport mode only.
I like the idea of the independent switch connected directly to solenoid for on/off, no connection to the DME. Anybody know were to find installation instructions?
Thanks for your help.

As a cantankerous old man, I love having the option for turning the PSE on or off ... sometimes I love the sound, and sometimes it is just a drone. Coming into my neighborhood late at night, it is always off ... no point in annoying the neighbors.

I agree with Ben, I have the PSE on my Seal Grey 997 and I have it on loud all the time, and I think that it is OK, but not great. I have decided to remove the PSE and install the Evo Headers, Mufflers, and Intake from my Silver 997, as well as some High Flow Cat that I just picked up. I think that the new one will be a nicer sounding exhaust, I am sure we will see each other at a PCA event in the new year. BTW I don't think that you are cantankerous, the old part...well maybe!

Full install is key to me. I enjoy having the choice to be loud or quiet. It makes my wife and my neighbors happy, and it has kept me out of trouble with the police numerous times. Keep in mind that I live in an urban environment in a very old neighborhood with small streets and brownstones and brick townhouses, off of which the exhaust resonates quite loudly.
I think you just answered your own question. If you don't mind paying than I would do it. I personally have it disconnected but feel comforted that I can change it back when and if wanted.
I don't know if you can hook it up independently of the DME though.

You can't just install " a switch " somewhere to control the PSE bypass valves .
The "switch" allows you to override the factory cut-off (PSE in quiet mode below 50 mph ) or to "open" the bypass valves
to ( loud mode) without turning on the Sports Chrono.
All the switch does is to disconnect the 12 V power to the solenoid valve, which then prevents the exhaust bypass valves from closing ( PSE always loud )
But to do that, you need the full install ( with the exception of running a wire to the front Sport Chrono panel )
The full install is a lot more than just wiring .
(you need to install and wire up to a solenoid valve, connect vacuum tubing to the cars system and to the exhaust dampers etc. etc.)
If you want to install the switch later , do a search here and on other web sites.
If you can't find it, I'll be happy to give you instructions on how to do it .
Better yet, give the mechanic a couple of extra $$ and tell him to install the switch for you .
Personally , I would only do the full install . If you ever change your mind, it will be very difficult later , with the mufflers in place.
Also , considering that the bypass valves are located inside the exhaust pipes , I'm not so sure that in time they will not
" freeze" in place if they are not occasionally cycled , open / closed .
Good luck ,
PS: You will love the PSE .

That is not true in my urban neighborhood. Driving even normally with PSE in sport mode wakes neigbors, causes cops to look in your direction and curdles milk. It can also cause prada mommies to scream at you if you rev match while braking for a cross-walk. Quiet mode is safe mode. I hit the switch whenever I feel that I am generating too much attention or my wife says the "safe" word: PALOMINO
Last Sunday coming back home from Napa, I was enjoying the drive and the sound of the PSE on the country road. A cop pulled up behind me at a traffic light. I turned mine off for a few blocks until he made a left. Put it back on after that.
I love the choice and the peace of mind.
+1 on driving around my neighborhood also.

Well ,it must be loud enough for Porsche to have had to incorporate the cut-out below 50 mph in order to conform with noise requirements in some Countries .Lol
My 2 cents worth.
Full install w/ an additional switch (opens the +12V line to the vacuum solenoid) to control the PSE regardless of Sport Mode.
or
Just install the additional switch (no Sport Mode activation) to provide the +12v to the vacuum solenoid. This is how I did mine since I didn't want to mess w/ the DME and Sport Mode.
Good Luck . . . You'll love the result.
ps. I too did the X51 headers & PSE; great fit . . . simple DIY.

Definitely go for the full installation if you don't mind pay for the install cost. It is good to have a option to be in "quiet mode". After 14 months of "always loud" mode, I finally go back to the stock setting. Maybe I am a cantankerous old man now.
