If the stickies contained hot topics they would be viewed much more favorably and help to reduce the unecessary and countless dupe threads and as mentioned would remain open for current/new discussion; it would also make these hot areas much easier to access while also eliminating countless new threads on the same topic when doing a search...

That's the whole point..."search" is ignored by most (especially newbies) and probably always will be, so it's about time for plan B!
Then there's the problem when using search as it brings up numerous threads on the very same topic so why not start keeping the most popular topics all in one (and very visible) place.
