Who makes 911 Transmissions...Japanese?

I'd prefer that my German sports car had even more engineering and manufacturing help from the Japanese. Then it would have far better build quality and wouldn't be riddled with endless buzzes, resonances, etc.
Maybe the rear main seal would even be installed correctly.

Usually 2nd gear synchro problems, they can't handle a sudden shift from 4th to 2nd on high revs., so if you shift from 4th to 2nd say at 5K rpm's you will have synchro issues, regards, Sonny.

This is such narrow-minded jingoistic tosh. Who gives a monkey's f*ck where the stuff comes from as long as it works 100%. Porsche is a global company and they buy the best for the job wherever that happens to be designed or made. You can't afford to narrow down your choices based on nationalistic stereotypes - that's just stupid business.

Le Chef, you are correct untill the point comes when quality is sacrificed. In 1997 I bought an E420 and the lights in the instrument panels kept burning out...normaly not an item that Mercedes wanted to cover except they knew they had a problem since these new halogen lights were purchased in CHINA.
I am for a global company as long as the end result is a better product. That said I am partial to the German transmissions...nothing to do with "nationalistic stereotypes". Japanese companies are outsourcing just like we are...can you imagine your transmission made in China?

That's a Mercedes problem - these days sadly known for poor quality control - not a Chinese problem. You;re still confusing jingoism with business economics. Shame on Mercedes if they haven't figured out after over 100 years of making vehicles how to manage their suppliers properly.

Sonny, which is it? Over-revving? You state in one post that the synchros go bad at the 4-2 downshift at 5k rpm, hardly an over-rev situatioin, then you say that the dealer checks for over rev, and that causes the tranny to go bad.

Downshifting from high rpm's to a more lower than usual gear, the engine will take lots of abuse, not the same for the tranny, upshifting is ok for the tranny at any rpm's, it seems that the 2nd. gear synchros don't like the sudden high load that happens if you miss a downshift at high rpm's, note, I have only seen this on 2nd. gear, it might happen on third but I haven't see it yet, Sonny.
