Default 997 Horn - ouch!

I have a 997 C4S Cab - a dream car in everyway except the horn. Miss the classic 964 airhorn sound that first made me love 911's. Anyone know what kind I could buy to get the classic sound, and then the real question, how hard is it to install one of these?

Thanks for your thoughts -

Mark

Make sure that both horns are working properly. There have been a few reports here of one of the dual horns not working, which make the horn sound wimpy. It is a warranty item. If you still don't like the sound, them move on to the complete replacement stage.

I'm not a fan of the 997 horn either so I had Hella horns installed. Have a much more European sound. My installer also installed a switch under the dashboard that enables me to reactivate the stock horns should I want to.

How often do you use your horn? So infrequent for me that I can't even think of what it sounds like and so for me it doesn't matter. But that's just me...

I use my horn every day...because of the smartop. Other than that I used it twice I think

I just went out into the garage to try my horn -- haven't heard it yet. Then again, the car is new -- I've only put 7200 miles on it so far. Yep, there's a horn, it's a nice dual-tone kind of sound...

get this sucker:
(you need basic electronics in order to install it. you need to install a relay driven by the stock horn harness, very easy to do)

i want to put the stock horns that would be found on my old 91 964, much nicer tone. I toot the horn sometimes when i see someone...i feel like a mack truck honking at them, the 964 had a much cleaner sound.

I had the stock horn taken out & Hella air horns installed. The bumper cover was removed for installation of the center radiator, so it was relatively simple. A separate fused wire to the battery was put in, with the stock wiring used only to actuate the new relay. It sounds much better than the wimpy OEM unit.

Default Old School Sound

My '07 C4S makes the Old School Sound when warned about the trunk being open, etc- using the key fob - I need to look in the manual

I would prefer the older horn sound all the time as well.

Ron, Only 7200??? Man you got to get her out and drive more often!

I know, the most is track mileage. Never got out to it this season

BTW, Danbury Porsche has a nice black/orange GT3-RS in the showroom. It's got your name on it!!! Oh that's one sick car.

As for the horn, I viewed a video clip of a bunch of guys driving around and blowing a horn that was louder than all hell. It was a railroad air horn!! Scared the crap out of people!! And you can put it in any car with the kit they show.

Mine seems OK. Maybe will switch out to Hella or another easy retrofit ones. Not too important, that's unless you're next to a Hummer or other big SUV on the right and he/she can't see you.

Regards,
Deanski
