997 Oil Usage Poll

My oil consumption seemed high at first when I bought the car early this year, but it has gone down sharply. For example, I had to add far less oil, about a third of a quart, in my most recent two day track session, than I had to add for my first one-day track session last spring. The car has 5800 miles now.
Dan, your oil consumption does not sound right. With all the sweet options you got on your car, you think they could've given you the pick of the litter of engines!?!

I'm at 11,600. Quart at 1,200 | Quart at 3,300 | Quart at 6,000 | Quart at 9,700. Currently showing one bar from top, hasn't moved since 9,700.
Engine runs like a monster. On the other hand, I have a noise coming from the pax rear wheel that sounds like a collapsed bearing retainer or a CV joint going out; speed sensitive, independent of clutch engagement or engine speed.
PCM says "service in 23 days" so I will have them look at it...
I love this car. When I leave it at home, I'm sad all day long.

1 quart every 800 miles for mine also... (8k total)
I went by the dealership just yesterday to talk with them about this. They took a reading for themselves and put a qt. in. In 500 miles, they'll check it again.
They want to see for themselves.
don't know what'll come of it. if anything

1 quart every 600-800 miles for my '06 997 C2S too. It's been like that ever since the car was new, and now it has over 14K miles. The motor had a head gasket replacement at 7K miles, and I assumed that oil consumption would go down significantly after everything settled in, but it didn't.
I've also just started the official oil consumption documentation process through the dealer a couple of weeks ago.

Have a 997 C4S no oil use yet - how well does everyone trust the electronic oil gauge on these cars - dealer told me that they are not really accurate. If thats the case - how are you supposed to check it?

In the old days, Porsches came with a gadget called a dipstick. It was extremely old fashioned and primitive but, on the whole, it was pretty reliable. Then Porsche hired some engineers from BMW and the rest is history.

wow, is anyone else a bit annoyed at Porsche for this dismal show ( i know, i know, not scientific data), roughly 10% of newish cars using that much oil!!! Both my 996 and Boxster don't use any between changes and never did.
