I am probably going to attend the P driving school in January.
Where have most of you stayed?
The P web site says they have group rates at The Renaissance Ross Bridge Hotel (Marriott).
Is this where you have stayed, or are there any alternatives where others have stayed? I do want to stay where the majority of people in the class are staying, whether it be at the above hotel or somewhere else.

I stayed at the Renaisance. Nice enough hotel. Its the easy place to stay, since the shuttle takes off from there and drives you to the school in the AM. Its also the place where they have the dinner after the first day. In my school, I would estimate 90% of the people stayed there.
If you decide to rent a car, obviously you can stay anywhere.

Hampton Inn's at the Colonnade or Trussville are much closer then Ross Bridge.
The Colonnade is located at I-459 and 280. Their are numerous hotels in that area all of which are easily 20 minutes closer to Barbers than Ross-Bridge but not as nice. There are lots of good restaurants either way on 280 too.
My personal favorite Bottega's is about 10-15 minutes away towards Birmingham.
Another added plus is there is a nice road that is a back way to Barbers right by The Colonnade area. If you need any further assistance feel free to PM me.

The vast majority of attendees stay at Ross Bridge.
Being on the cheap side I am staying at and writing this from:
Homestead Studio Suites
Birmingham - Perimeter Park South
http://www.homesteadhotels.com/minis...site%26user%3D
3 nights booked thru Priceline
Total Charge: $101.06 (3nights)
A bunch of the instructors stay here, and it's not so bad, even has a fridge, microwave and a stove and is about 20 min from the track.

I stayed at the Ross Bridge Resort. It has a lot to offer if you get to take advantage of it. I thought that I was going to play golf and spa a bit, but you really have no time. I even stayed an extra half day, but I was too wiped to get up early to play golf. I just hung out and used the spa. It was very nice. Also, I think transportation to and from Ross Bridge and Birmingham Airport is included. Don't know if a shuttle to anywhere else is part of the package. If you don't have a car then I guess you'd have to opt for Ross Bridge so you can take the shuttle to Barber Motor Park. If you do have a car then you can stay anywhere but you'd miss out on the comraderie of the shuttle ride. Either way - you're gonna have a great time!!
