Default which snow tire? advise please

I will be ordering snow tires for my c2s, I'd like Blizzark but these are not available in the correct size

Wheel enhancement advises:

1. Continental ContiWinterContact TS810 S N0 - or

2. Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2 N1 - or

3. Pirelli Winter 240 SnowSport N0 -

any thought? thanks

Depends of what roads and climate you are living in. My experience is that the Pirellis sucks, Michelin are ok. Continental and Nokian are the best. Continentals better for high speeding and highway driving. Nokian better when slippery on snow and ice.

You can also consider Dunlop Winter Sport M3, they are without N. but they are also nice.

I use the following - sourced from Tire Rack. Work great!

The wheels are Silver Mille Miglia 3 with Conti Winter Contact TS 810S
Front 18x8.5 235/40VR-18
Rear 18x10 265/40VR-18

I have the Pirelli's. They were the only ones available in 19" at the end of the 2005/6 winter. I would have preferred the Contis at the time. I am happy with the pirellis which I run from Nov to end of March in CT.

I've used and been very happy with the Contis. If you want winter traction, I would recommend going with the 18" tires and wheels although the Contis are available in 19"

My question is which tire will handle the best on dry roads? How much of a sacrifice to the handling do you have to put with?

I have the Pirelli 240's and they certainly don't suck. Car drives better than any SUV I've ever owned (and I've had a few!) in snow, and ice. Just don't get high centered in really deep stuff; these cars are low! Dry handling is quite good; a little softer on the bumps than the summer spec tires.

I have the Michelin's and they handle quite well in the dry. I can feel some dfference from my Pilots, but the difference is not radical.

I have the 19" Pirellis. I find the width fine for the snow we get here in CT. As far as handling goes, they are not as sharp as my PS2s, but the car still handles and rides really well. Only a lunatic is going to drive 10 10ths in the middle of the winter on public roads.

I recommend the Hoosier R6. Otherwise, check out this thread:

On dry roads I would recommend the Pirellis or Dunlops. The other mention brand seems to be a bit softer, more biased against snow/ice. A while since I have used the Blizzak'z but they where horrible on dry road, much to soft. They

I want a tire that is stable on ice and snow. Not that I'm going to drive on that every day. Without losing to much dry performance. I don't want the hassle of having 2 sets of wheels either. Michelin's work for that?

I have the Pirellis and they're pretty great overall... a little bit noisy at highway speeds (vs. a _new_ set of PS2s) but not objectionable at all. They are a good value for the money and - probably the best way to give them kudos - I really felt no burning need to get them off the car as soon as the weather broke.
