Default Another spare tire question

Just talked to Sunset about parts for a spare tire set up. Evidently there are up to three different choices for a spare for the 997.

1. The 996 inflatable spare (a la Coochas) #996 362 020 04 $588 each
change from # 996 362 620 03

2. The inflated donut (like my 02 C2 had) #996 362 030 00 $294 each

3. The inflated donut (for C4 996 type) #996 362 050 01 $395 each

---------------I don't know, nor did Sunset, what the difference is!!!---------

I've got an 06 straight C4 with 18" wheels. All things considered, I'd like to spend less $$$, rather then more $$$, to get a spare system.

If I got the collapsable (Coochas system) I'd have a place to put the scissors jack(foam insert). But I'd probably have to store the wheel in the back seat! No problem. I could live with that!

BUT.... if I got the inflated donut (choice 2 and 3) I may be able to keep it up in the front and loose pack the scissor jack in the front trunk, also! I don't know if this wheel, or the C4 donut would even need/have the foam insert jack holder?? Would I have any clearance problems (Non PCCB)??

Anyone out there have any knowledge they can impart to those of us striving for enlightenment???

Can you store the inflated donuts up front??? I've got the Das Schild installed already! Is there a foam insert jack holder for those tires??

Foam insert (#996 722 101 00) $38
Scissors Jack (#996 721 211 00) $147
Alingment studs (#999 571 074 30) $ 7 each
Spare Tire Choose from above........

Runs you from $495 to just under $800 depending, for a complete system!!!

996 with foam insert containing jack and tools is the way to go. I bought mine second hand in the UK for around $300 - like new and even came with black cover. Fits up front but needs securing with webbing and hooks (under trim).

I bought the 996 collapsible spare, and carry a compact BMW jack kit that works fine for the Porsche too, just have to use a different socket size on the torque/lug wrench. I realize people utilize different types of tie downs and foam padding and such. The way the tire fits in the front, and supported on one side by the jack kit, it can't go anywhere, so I really don't see that anything else is needed.

I use a bungee cord across the top to hold it down. I have the same setup as Coochas. The whole setup works fine....GR

I know the C2 has lots more room!

I got the "inflated donut" on eBay for around $300. It came with the entire tire changing kit and a black cover. I carry it in the front unsecured and deflated. It sits at a bit of an angle, but has never posed a problem for me in carrying what I need to carry. I've had to use it once and was VERY glad I had it.
