Default New V1 is Great! Much smaller case.

Sent my 5 year old V1 back for an upgrade ($189), and received a completely new unit. The case is much more compact than the original and really tucks up nicely between the visor and the mirror. Much more unobtrusive than the old unit. I used the V1 install wired into the self dimming mirror circuit posted elsewhere on the forum. (thanks 1080i addict)

Highly reccomend the upgrade, the unit has a few new features and better sensitivity as well, have to take a look at the manual tonite for some bedtime reading.

Is it really new? I just checked VR's website and the unit is the same as it has been for a long time - at least 4 years. there have been upgrades, like PoP and such though.

Are you sure your old V1 was only 5 years old? I own 2 of them and the oldest is about 7 - 8 years old and the new one is about 3 and they both look exactly the same and exactly the same as what appears on their web site now.

Could be wrong, it was definitely a lot thicker than the new one. What setting does everyone usually run on? All bogeys, logic or advanced logic?

There was a time where the laser sensor was on the bottom, IIRC. So it did get thinner.

I just re-entered the serial number for my 10 year old V1 into their website, and they said my upgrade was $229. I've been wanted to do this for about a year, but now that I know its slightly thinner (it was published on their website but I missed it), I'll go ahead and do it. Here's a pic of my vintage V1 to show the extra thickness.

Mine is 10 years old as well, looks the same as the above!

So how does it work, do they send it to you and then you mail the old one back? Do they give you the needed packaging?

They must use a random number generator to determine the upgrade prices. Upgrading a newer unit which would probably require only a reflash costs more than upgrading an older unit which would probably have to be completely gutted. What makes it more puzzling is that they apparently send you a new unit in either case!

The ugrade can be done via valentines website, you enter your S/N and the site generates the upgrade price, then it takes you to a page to enter all of your billing, shipping, and payment info and your choice of shipping method for the new unit and the site generates a packing slip and shipping label.
I opted for 2nd day fedex return delivery @ $16, sent my old unit out on a Monday and had the new one by Friday - Brand new unit with all cables, mounts, etc.
I guess if you had a later style unit with the new case and wanted the latest software update they may send your original unit back.

FYI: I entered one of my serial numbers (I own 2) and the upgrade price was $85.
