Default 2008 Option Code - Canada

I've been perusing the Canadian Porsche dealer websites and have noticed an option code I haven't seen before: "MA Market Adjustment". It is always the first option listed and only appears for 2008 models. This option does not appear on US dealer websites.

Anyone know what it is? Are Canadians possibly getting some pricing relief for 2008 (re: pricing differential compared to US car prices)?

Yes, PCNA has reduced the MSRP for '08 and added a few more options as standard equipment. The total impact is about an 8% reduction in price...

If possible, I would like to order 2 or 3 of this option.

UDo you know what options are being added to a Canadian C2? By my calculations, based on 2007 msrp's a C2 bought in the US, would cost $82,584 (including 6% exchange and 6% import duty) compared to the new price of $92,644 for a Canadian car - a difference of $10,600. For 2007, the difference was closer to $20,000.

If this is indeed the case, I may consider a new Canadian car as opposed to a slightly used US Car.

Based on your analysis, and assuming the 8% reduction in 2008 will apply to both US and Canadian cars, it seems you would still be better off buying a car (new or used) in the US. When I was looking for mine a few months ago, I did a comparison of used prices in Vancouver to the prices in Southern California, and figured the same car (05 997S) was selling for about $20,000 less here in California. In fact, one car I went to see at a local used Porsche dealer was sold by phone 10 minutes before I got there to look at it.....to a Canadian!

The US dealers are not showing the MA "Market Adjustment" option on their 2008 models. I think the 8% will be to adjust Canadian prices closer to US prices, given the omprovement in the $CAD.

That would definitely kick ***, I'm looking at a used 997 and would be more inclined to get a new one. r perhaps I should wait and see what depreciation hit it causes to the used car market...

I believe the 8% is for Canada ONLY.. a way to stop the flooding of purchases of near new cars in the US.

Financial Spreadsheet I used.. TWICE... one 911 C2S and Boxter .. no comparison.. infact the savings allowed me to aquire the Boxster..

I used an importer to do all the taxes and transport .. fees are dependant of location of car.. flat admin of $1K is standard I think..

hope this helps

Well that's an interesting question! When I was being quoted prices on a new Cayenne a few weeks ago the sales rep at DFC wrote that heated seats/steering wheel and automatic climate control were "standard" equipment on all Canadian '08 Porsches. He even sent the specs on an in stock '08 to me showing these two options at no charge. I decided on another '08 that they had in stock and didn't bother checking for the new "standard" equipment until this past weekend when a friend pointed out that I had manual climate control, not automatic. I emailed my sales rep and he responded back that these were not "standard" equipment, they were "no charge options" that were free, but only if you ordered them! Oh sure, I buy that BS! So be sure to check the vehicle before you sign on the dotted line to ensure that it has all 4 tires and oil in the engine...these too may only be included if you ask for them in advance. And yes, the sales reps patronizing response cost them any future business with me. I'll be servicing my Cayenne at Pfaff...

Regarding pricing, it is still at least 10% cheaper (IIRC) to buy in the US and import into to Canada. The price change makes it more attractive for those who lease, however I'm not sure that I would buy locally based on the events that transpired today....

Zedder, The 2008 Order guide shows Automatic Climate Control as standard on the Cayenne S, but Manual Climate Control on the Cayenne Tiptronic. Which vehicle did you buy?

While at the dealer yesterday I got a glimpse of the rebates they're putting on the canadian cars.

Boxsters get approx $7-$8k off depending if it's an S or not
Cayman gets approx $8.5 - $9.5k off
Carrera starts at about $9k off for a base C2 and goes up to $15k off for a GT3

Needless to say this market adjustement is gonna hurt the resale market, however I got a nice 2007 C2S offered at over $20k off and I'm trying to find reasons not to jump on it besides the facelift in 2009...

Are you saying a Canadian dealer offered you a $20,000 discount on a 2007 C2S? What was the msrp? What equipment? As far as resale goes, this was bound to happen. Think about the hit PCNA will take when the current cars on lease are turned in. I'm not sure the residuals will make sense compared to market value, given the price drop. I should say that this price adjustment isn't a drop in the msrp (I haven't seen the 2008 order codes yet, though), but an "option" (MA - Market Adjustment) that could disappear as quickly as it appeared. I'm betting PCNA is testing the waters a bit here.

kayjh

PS I wouldn't wait for the facelift, I think it has a pretty nice face right now!
