geof - some also argue that it's the way they "should" be. In Europe they come from the factory as clears. I'm not quite clear (ahem) why they change them to orange in the US as lots of people swap them out and they are still legal.....

I just think it looks better.

9974G - the existing bulb is white but shines orange through the amber lens. I believe legally it has to be shining orange. From memory, the clear lenses come with an amber bulb.
Your options are;
stick with the white bulb (you can get a ticket for that)
stick with the orange bulb (you can see the orange through the lens so it does 'spoil' the look)
buy an orange bulb that looks silver on the outside (available if you look hard enough)

The amber lens come with clear bulbs.
The law states that you need amber light, so when you switch to clear lens, you need amber bulbs.
There are amber bulbs that stay amber when off or on, there are some that is silver looking when off and amber on.

Most clear lens you buy at Porsche or shops come with the always amber looking bulb.
I found some on ebay that look like silver but turn amber when on.

It all depends on if that little amber inside the clear lens bother you or not.

kw_1055 ...explained it perfectly. ...and you can get the Silver/Yellow bulbs here: http://www.hoen-usa.com/city2.htm

......but even more seductive are the 'upgrades' for the Driving Lamps ...and oddly enough, the License Plate bulbs. Both change the color to a better Kelvin so your lights all look top-shelf rather than from the KIA bin.

Got them on, but they don't blink.

They come on with the lights are on. Hmm is that right?

Sounds right to me.
They are running lights and not not direction signal indicator lights.

Hahah how weird, all this time I thought they blink. My other cars have side markers that blink, thats why I thought something was wrong.

put them in last night, the hardest part was taking the retainer pins out of the plug assembly. took all of about 5 min.

pbarch,
The trick is you dont take the retainer pins out.
If you just push of the connector, the pins unlatch. No need to prise them out with a screwdriver.
When you install the new ones, press the connector on and you hear a click and the pins re-latch.
Its really kind of cool.
