Default Targa Surprise

When you roll the glass roof back it makes it impossible to use the rear view mirror, especially when you have had the glass tinted. Otherwise this beats the Cab by leaps and bounds.

Hi Chip, I have a T4S and my view is blocked by about 1/3. Do you have the rollscreen fully up when you put the roof back? If so, that would completely block your view. If you roll it up and then put the roof back, you should be ok. I am at 3k miles in 2 months. Too much fun...

I found the same thing- roll down the screen and then roll down the glass roof.

I remember reading an article in Excellence about a white T4S, and the reviewer commented on how the rear view was blocked once the glass roof was rolled down. He didn't know (or at least didn't comment) how this could be fixed by simply rolling down the screen. It shows that no matter how well-intended or otherwise educated on a product a reviewer can be, their review may not be perfect!

Yesterday I drove out west out of DC into Virginia, looking for some backroads to bomb. On my right I saw dark clouds from a thunderstorm, and decided to go there. Fifteen minutes later I found the thunderstorm and was greeted by multiple lightning bolts visible through both the windshield and the glass roof! Then came the hard rain and more lightning bolts, and I saw raindrops streaking the glass both around and above me, and then smelled the freshness a thunderstorm brings. I chased the storm a little longer, and then headed on, and I saw the towering storm clouds over me lit up by the late afternoon sun. Cabriolets certainly do have their sweet spot, but an experience like this is available only to the Targa!

If only the NAV could also display weather radar plots!

I believe that will be standard equipment on the 999 series.

This is what I kept trying to tell people. Not only is the Targa great in good weather, it is incredibly cool in bad weather where you have more of a connection to your surroundings, which can lead to unexpected moments of beauty.

Yes! Bad weather becomes something to chase rather than to avoid! I think Porsche had this in mind and hit it right by making this a 4WD car. I guess we'll have to wait a couple years to see if the market agrees...

This thread reminded me - September build - can't wait. Cab season will be just about over in the northeast, but not targa season.

In the northeast the targa gives great open feeling when it is cold or dark and feels like a cab in the nice weather. Could not think of a better choice.

It really comes down to personal preference. In California a Cab wins, because the weather there is so agreeable. But here on the East Coast, especially in DC, ideal Cab weather does not come often. It is either too hot or too cold, unless you don't mind driving top-down in 90 degree, 90% humidity weather!

Thanks, that's better. The salesman talked me into getting a heavy tint so it's still a little dark with the roof down at night, a couple of blind spot mirrors should do the trick.

With 200 miles on my belt I notice the the cabin seems a lot more spacious than the Cab. It's a 102 in the PHX valley so I'm looking forward to getting up into the mountains on the way home. Now I won't have to pull over to lower the top. Life is good.

Glad to hear you are enjoying your Targa. It's not very popular on this board but I absolutely love it. Yes, also very convenient to put the roof back up at 90 mph when i want to take a phone call.

The add-on blind spot mirrors are ugly. A better (more expensive) option is to replace the side mirrors with the European aspherics, which should provide wide coverage.

I had the aspherics. They are nice, but not really necessary. Just adjust your mirrors properly and do not waste your money.
