It's the tires more than anything, I believe. I noticed when I put on a set of fresh PS2s, the road noise literally cut itself in half.

Ultimately, maybe I'm young but the 997 is by far the most comfortable car I've ever owned. I couldn't imagine wanting or needing any more comfort for a road trip.

What tires did you have before the PS2's? I've been test driving 997's and have noted the tire noise as an issue as well. On a long trip, I'd probably use my in ear monitors (http://www.ultimateears.com/_ultimat...escription.php) which cut outside noise -26db whle providing great sound from my iPod at volume 2. Of course, you don't hear much outside noise including other car's horns, etc. so I wouldn't use them in the city.

I had a set of very worn PS2s.

It's a great car for touring. The first month I had the 997S Cab, I drove from Providence to Chicago and back. Most of the time with the top down.

But as it has been said, must think through your packing if travelling 2-up.

I dove my '05 C2S from Southern NJ to Montreal for the Canadian GP last year. It is about 7 hour drive (the record is 6 hours, but I had a Jag and an M3 following me). We experienced no problems at all in the car. It rides very comfortably for such a high performance sports car. Oh, and for those posters who take a Lexus RX on long trips, you cannot hit 160 MPH in those! :

Knoxville - Hilton Head - Knoxville (7hrs each way) last mo.

GREAT FUN!

Only problem----

The "Sweet Spot" speed-wise is just about 100 mph.

Comfy though...

The tire brand may have some effect on road noise...but the primary cause is the road surface that you are driving on.
There are some road surfaces that just sing..others that are quiet as a mouse

Anything is better than the Lexus.
The RX330 has the absolute most uncomfortable seats of any car on the road today. I hate my wifes with a passion.

bought my TT from a dealer in Ohio and drove the 10 hrs. back to L.I. Was totally comfortable, never fatigued. Did some shorter trips (about 5 hrs. each way) in my 997S and same thing. The seating position, the seats, the visibility, and the ergonimics are just about perfect. Was as comfortable as my E55 was on long trips.

I did a loop of Florida then drove to Maryland in my 997. Had a ball. Very comfortable in my opinion. I carry a tire plug kit as well as the factory pump. I used the plugs twice in 10,000 miles. Seems like the rear tires find nails and screws easily.

You probably didn't hear too much tire noise with the top down!

thanks, it's a go.

My wife offered to share the driving, I trust her skills ,she can handle a stick well (also shifts well) but

I think I would be a nervous wreck being a passenger.
