aerokit - is it effective?
I am wondering if anyone can share his / her experience regarding the feeling of driving a 997 with and without aerokit. I know about the clearance issues, but my question is whether one can feel the additional downforce / stability and under which circumstances (autobahn only? track only?, etc.)
Thanks!
Thanks!

I have driven my C2S without aero kit, and I have driven a 997GT3 that obviously has the kit. I can say that the car with the kit felt significantly more planted on the road at say 130mph. The only question is how much of that is due to aero kit and how much due to the other enhancments in the GT3 chasis? I do not know, but I would guess the kit had a big role in the enhanced feel at speed.

It won't do anything for the feel of the car until you get into the area of speed that blk on blk described. There's only one purpose for the aerokit on a street-purpose car -- looks.

My experience with aero aids on 911s goes back a long way. Porsche has done a commendable job with the stock tails but they have limited capability. For serious stability the aero kit is highly effective,--but really only above 120 mph. Under that it's just over kill.

For street use you will not see any or much downforce effects unless you break the law. ;-) The aerokit to me is one of the best accessories Porsceh does...they just complete the look of the car to me if you are going for more of a sport look with your Carrera over the luxury look.

I have driven my 997s on the oval at California speedway with no aerokit, and it was scary.
Once I hit 120+ that car felt very light in the tail and not as surefooted as i would like.... i peaked at 140-150 and I was pretty nervous.
I will not do another high speed track until my GT3/aero kit is installed .... if anything it will help "me" feel better and hopefully make the car feel better.

I have taken several rented 997s without aerokit to 150 mph+ on the German Autobahn and the cars felt planted well. I took Euro delivery on my GT3 and had the RS wing and front wedge installed while in Germany - frankly, even at top speed I felt no difference between the two - there might be a difference on a track with high speed corners. On US public roads you won't feel the difference. I would even say that only the most experienced drivers would see a diffference on the track.
It's quite involved as you have to switch the rear deck lid and deal with the spoiler control module in absence of a movable wing. In addition, Porsche makes you switch the front spoiler as well in order to keep the aerodynamic balance of the car.

I had 996 C2 lowered with MO30 Porsche Euro sports suspension. It was more stable than stock U.S. at high speeds. Then went to a 996GT3 and that was night and day at high speeds (over 90) over the MO30. I now have a 997S and once I get over 130 on the back straight at Road Atlanta the car feels too light. I would never get that feeling in the GT3. Bottom line when you are over 120 in the standard car without aero there was a large difference in feel. But.....still haven't heard from someone with a stock 997S who then went to the aerokit. My gut says it would be more stable but a lower ride height (ala the GT3) would also play a large role.

What do the experts say about going 150 in these cars without a 'real' roll bar? Can someone survive a roll at 150 without a roll bar?

I did 151MPH on I-5 and the car feels liftie. It was
a short blast but I did not want to go faster.
Having the car aligned for track use was one major change
I would surley recommend. You should only do this on high
speed highways. Anywhere else you
are asking for problems.
