I have had several DE events in my 997S without issue. I still have the stock P-Zeros and OEM pads, but they should be dead soon.
Were you expecting problems?

Problems? 997S is fantastic on the track. Try this on for size... 7 hours in 2 days at an average of 89 MPH (146 maximum) last month followed by 8 hours in 2 days at a higher average and maximum (R-comps arrived). Lap times bone stock were 2:17 at Watkins Glen (3.5 miles) and probably down 5+ seconds now with the RA1s and I'm still learning the car (new to Porsche).

Brakes are massive and fantastic with SRF fluid, Pagid Oranges (I'd go Yellow next time - was hoping for a hybrid pad I can street, changed mind once I saw how easy it is to change pads).

Head over to Racing and DE section and read up some posts. Click on my name and see some past threads as I've reported at length about the 997S at Lime Rock and Watkins Glen.

You will have a blast! My 997S is stock and I track it all the time.

I highly suggest for your 1st few times until you have a lot of track days under your belt to just track the car stock. Street tires will give you more feedback and the 997S big red brakes as is stock are plenty for a long time.

Follow-up, which PSCs? The original flavor in 18" or the new hybrid 19"? My guess is you won't see much of a difference in the new Porsche formula over the PS2s that came on the car given the new tread design and compound.

There's a pretty substantial difference between OEM 19" PS2s and N-spec 19" PSCs. I can run 4-6 seconds faster on a 3.7 mile track with PSCs as opposed to PS2s. They really are two different tires.

As far as 18s, I can't comment. I haven't driven 18" tires of any iteration on a 997.

There's an older thread about smoking on start after the car has been run hard. Might want to check it out.

That's good to hear about the 19" PSC variant -- I wonder how many more seconds you'd gain with an 18" PSC "original recipe"? My guess is the 19" PSC is in the middle somewhere: Base PS2, -5 seconds 19" variant, -3 seconds more original 18" variant?

So 18" PSC's are the ticket?

They have good and bad points. I enjoyed them on my M3, but switched to RA1s on my 997S for a few reasons. One is I didn't like how the PSCs were in the cold and wet - left them home and ran PS2s on those days (which are many in the Northeast). Another is to keep to OEM front and rear tire diameters so as to not impact ABS / PSM. I'm still getting used to the RA1s and when I finally dialed in the right cold pressure (26.5 driver's rear, 28 all others) I got to 40 hot all around and there they rocked.

Tire pressure is key at the track.

Yes I've found with the advise I've gotten and experianced that anything above 40 hot on my PS2's they feel really greasy/splipery. 38 hot is much better.

I keep them 33/39 cold for the street, sometimes a little less.

David, I was going but could not get the time since I was just at Sebring last weekend. I will be back to Sebring July 28 and August 4-5th and many more times this year.
