Default Hesitation under acceleration

Strange occurance. I have seen other posts regarding engine hesitation but not with the same circumstances.

Last filled up around 6/7 with premium grade gas, drove approximately 180 miles without noticing anything out of the ordinary. Drove the car last Thursday 6/28 to my office, about a 40 mile round trip, didn't notice any hesitation, thought about filling up because I had about 1/4 tank remaining but didn't. Got in today to run some errands and the car was jerking under acceleration. The RPM gauge was also stuttering in concert with the engine hesitation. I drove to the nearest gas station and filled up. The additional gas in the tank has seemed to stop the problem.

The only thing I can figure is sedement in the tank. Anyone else ever experienced this on a low tank of gas? Should I have the dealer flush the tank?

Lot's of people have experienced this and many threads on it - do a search.
Happened to me at 600 miles. Parked car for 20mins and was back to normal - never happened again.

Dealers know about this as well. If it happens again have it documented at your dealer.
Could be a software fix/update.
Also remember reading wire/connection somewhere....but don't know if a true cause has been identified.

John -
It actually DOES sound like the typical hesitation scenario that many of us have experienced. I am fairly confident that noone knows what the cause is but we do know that it self-resolves. It's happened to me twice in about 7500 miles...no worries!

The only time and it very rare I get hesitation is from a dead start under the crack of the throttle. I never get any hesitation while running the car hard at AutoX or DE. It is very very rare I get any hesitation.

This may not relate at all, but just out of curiousity -- does anyone know which company makes our 997 fuel pump? In the BMW world, there is a big story of engine hesitation/stalling on the 335i and turned out it was caused by a faulty fuel pump made by Siemens. BMW had to stop using the Siemens fuel pump and switch to Bosch fuel pump. The story is eveywhere in the BMW world.

I wonder since the German car companies sometimes use the same OEM companies for parts, any chance that it is also using the Siemens brand of fuel pump?

Again, this may not relate at all and just my far guess... My car also had 'once' stall and hesitated at around 1,500 mile on the odometer. It was happened the day after I fueled up the tank using another Chevron gas station other than the one I normally used. Since then I religiously sticking with the same Chevron gas station and the hesitation/stalling never happened again. Fingers crossed.

With best regards,

It's happened to me twice...about 4-5 months apart.
The last time was about 2 months ago.
No clue why.

I also get hestitation from a dead start. Right when I really need to get up and go the engine hesitates and has even backfired. The dealer tells me it was the tiptronic software that needed remapping, it did not resolve the problem. I f anybody else has similar symptoms please comment.

Question: Is this hesitation from a dead start only when you first start the car for the day?

The hesitation is constant, all day long, hot, cold. you really have to ease into the throttle so that it doesnt hestitate.

Happened to me when I first got the car. Dealer couldn't find any fault codes. Went away by itself. Has never happened again for the last 8000 miles.

I somehow suspect that it is fuel pump related... Can it be 'Vapor Lock in the Fuel Pump'?

Technical gurus, what do you think?

With best regards
