Default 19" Wheel Tire Shortage???

Hmm interesting. AM looking to switch to 19" wheels and upgrade and many of you have helped me with your assistance on wheels and proper fitments for my base Carrera 997. However have noticed as I've looked online and even called my local guy that there's a shortage of tires in the fitment I need.
Specifically below sizes:

Front: 235/35ZR19 N0 (Porsche)
Serv. Desc: (87Y)
UTQG: 140 A A Price: $232.00 (each)
Estimated Availability: Back Order Front:
012345678

Rear: 295/30ZR19 N0 (Porsche)
Serv. Desc: (100Y)
UTQG: 140 A A Price: $286.00 (each)
Estimated Availability: Back Order

Anybody notice similar situations locally or online? My next try is the dealer but god I hate to do that as they'll end up charging me almost a premium on them over normal prices. Any thoughts, observations? Rob

Yup, needed PZeros for my S and had to get them through the dealer because there is a tire hold back and only dealers can purchase using your cars' VIN.

Yup. 19 tire shortage.

Get a flat without spare: you're screwed.

Hit a pothole: same.

Now a shortage (and extortive pricing) for 19s.

The price we pay for _fashion_.

Way to go Porsche; very reliable and practical!

Rob that's true, only other alternative other than the dealer is going with a different manafacturer. I'm looking into the Nitto Invo in 245/35/19 front and 305/30/19 rear.

I just went to tire rack, and was surprised. The only OEM tire that's in stock right now is the Pirelli Pzero Rosso--front sizes only; rear shows back order. All the other OEM tires are on back order. Amazing.

Hopefully it's a short term thing. I don't need tires and won't for awhile barring a road hazzard incident.

But you'd think nearly two years later, there wouldn't be a supply problem for the 19" tire sizes. Geez

That is INSANE! I mean really. Only place I've been able to find is tires-easy.com for Continental SportContact 2 for a set of 4. All others say special order. I was able to find a set of Bridgestone Re 050 A for rears and 1 front! That sucks! I mean how can I drive on 3 tires. I am sure the dealer will charge me 25-50% more than tire rack.

Is this normal? Would changing to 305's on the rear make it any better? Anybody else out there found anything better or available? If so PM me.

What about Bridgestone Potenza RE960AS Pole Position's ZR19's? Tire Rack seems to have those available in stock now? But they are an all season tire so won't I loose something in grip and traction? I plan to keep my 18" Carerra Classic's for any track duty and they are fitted with summer tires (Continental Sport Contact 2) from the dealer...so would I be okay with the AS Pole positions tires then?

If it were I, I'd consider the Yokohama Advan Sport, which is a summer max performance tire instead, unless you really want an all season tire. What's even crazier, is Tire Rack shows the Hoozier R compound tires ARE in stock, albiet, low stock.

I just checked and they show the rear PS2 in stock, but front on back order. In any case, you are right that they are not easy to find.

Just talked to my dealer and they have NONE; referred me to the local "preferred" tire place who I have already spoken with and so far are only able to find me 3 of 4 Bridgestones and are finding fronts and no rears, rears and no fronts, 1 front and 3 rears and vice-versa for all other brands at the 19" sizes.

This is like a dream! LOL

My advice...don't get a flat guys OR plan to upgrade until summer is over; oil prices are down; or whatever is going on is over.

Call around, other dealers can usually get them with your VIN. A dealer in NJ I found charged what I would pay from Tire rack plus a few $ for weights. Basically Free mounting!

Dealer called back. Michelin Sport PS2 are all he can get a set of 4 and he's talking $2500 for the tires, mounted, balance, and 4 wheel allignment with taxes included of course. Does that seem like a fair price or kinda steep?

That seems a little on the high side to me. I think you should be able to get the tires, including mounting and balancing for around 1800-1900, but I do not know the cost of the 4 wheel alignment. I would think no more than 200 for the alignment. So maybe 2100 total.
