Sounds WAY steep! That's more than $600 per tire. Even at dealer prices, the tires, mounting and balancing shouldn't be more than $400 per tire I'd say, plus a couple hundred for alignment which should not be needed unless your old tires show an uneven wear pattern. On the other hand, when supply is short, they can start charging what they want. Not a happy place for us to be.

296/30/19 should be around $450 - $500 each and 235/35/19 should be around $300 - 350. Alignment should be around $250 and balance and installation should be around $50 each. All whole thing should not be over $2100 including sales tax. Depend where you are, some North CA dealer offer free mounting and balance for a set of four. That bring it down to around $1,700. Good luck in searching.

So....let's see. The price of gas is going down and now the price of tires is going up.

Oh yeah, I am down to the wear bars on the rear. My timing couldn't be better

Well, you have to pay to play.

Yeah, pay to play for sure - but when you're ready to pay, and you still can't play... that's a pisser!

Time to rethink the supposed upgrade. My advice is stick with the 18" that Porsche put on the car in the first place. Maybe spend the extra $$ burning a hole in your pocket on some nice 18" wheels instead. Just my $.25 (price adjusted for inflation and the price of gas)

I just had to buy one tire at the dealer, and tire plus tax ,mount balance and disposal fee was 560.00. His quote sounds about right. at about $140 per hr for labor, i think the alignment is more than 250.00, but not much more.

I just picked my 2005 911S up, it has 9000 miles on it and had the orginal PS2's were worn out, I had the car certified so they had to order tires and TireRack is out of just about everything but my Dealer was still able to get the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A even though they said they were backordered...

Don't park your car outside if you live in Florida. I need some rear 19"s. I will let you know where to pick up the wheels.

Well luck at last or maybe just plain lucky...TireRack has Yokohama ADVAN Sport 19" or at least their website says so in he available sizes so I put in an order for those. Quantity says LOW STOCK so those of you in the need may want to pick up a set as well before they are gone too. Otherwise all that seem to be available are Bridgestone Re960 AS at a decent price and PS2 at about 125-150% regular prices it seems when you can find a WHOLE set together to purchase.

Wow...oil prices up/gas prices now down, tire prices out of this world at least for us..all we need is one good hurricane down in the gulf and everything will go to hell and handbasket....NOT hopefully. Anyway I'll talk again to my tire shop instead of the dealer as they have given me at least reasonable prices before for mounting and balancing. I only have 5000 miles on my 18" Continental's so I don't think the tread is shot or too far grossly out of line so I guess I should be able to forgoe an alignment until I get my next service or change the oil or something.

Good luck to you all...will post pics and driving impressions for those interested.

Wait a second, why are you considering downgrading your 18" set up for an inferior 19" one? Do some research and you'll find 18s are better in all respects (weight, cost, performance). This was all theoretical to me until my 18s arrived and the 19" lobsters went into storage - the 18s are that much better (figures, I should have known it would be true because I read it so many places including in Excellence articles a couple of times).

But not looks, and looks trumps everything else.

Went to champion yesterday to talk about a set of rear tires cause i got 2 plugs in left rear and one is leaking slowly.Service manager calls for pirellis cause thats whats on the front and finds out there are none...so he offers me a deal for michelin ps2 tires. All four tires replaced for the price of the rear tires.Says hes doing this cause i got the car there and pirelli is subsidizing this due to lack of tires.Sounds like a good deal to me..what do you think?

Here in UK Pirellis are also in very short supply. OPC quoted me £395 each! But a local dealer did 'em for about £150 less.

My advice to anyone changing tyres - hang on to the 'old' set, just stick them in your garage. You never know when you'll get a bad puncture/tear and at least if you've got the old set you can put one/two back on temporarily and be up and driving rather than have to park for six weeks waiting to get new ones on back order.
