Default New additions to 997S!!

Called the local dealer and discussed how I wanted to get more out of the car. I advised him that I wanted to do it in a couple of stages, suggestions were Intake+ecu programming, exhuast, suspension.

Completed on Thursday;

OEM SS
15MM Rear Spacers
7MM Front Spacers
Evo V Flo Intake + ECU Prog.

The short shifter is great and going through the gears is more precise, should be a standard on the car!! I wanted to add the spacers to bring the wheels flush with the fenders and the car looks great with the wider track. The dealer advised that I should do the ecu prog. when I installed the evo due to the computer adjusting to the air/fuel mix. I did not think that it was going to be as noticable and was quite suprised on the increase. The car pulls through all the gears quicker and feels that it has more mid range torque. I am very happy with the additions and would highly recommend.

To come; exhuast. I prefer the sound of the Tubi headers and mufflers, more cup car sounding.

Do the spacers do anything besides improve the looks? Why are they normally used? Pics?

Gab 997, thanks for your post. Did you order the EVO Intake and ECU via the dealer or on a website? Ballpark cost? Can't wait to see pix of the wheels!

The spacers are primarily for looks, however the dealer did say that it will improve handling a bit. I have not noticed much of a handling improvement but really like the look. Will get picts on shortly.

Spacers for looks, if you think that looks better. Having checked with performance wheel shops and tuners, the opinion is that they do not increase performance. The car was designed a certain way and if a wider track was needed, it would have been done. Another victim of the marketing department that thinks the world needs / wants 19" wheels, wider stance, etc.

SW Florida is not that far from Sebring....bring that car over and have some fun. I'll be there this Saturday and the next weekend and again at the end of the month.

heres a pic of mine with the same 7mm front & 15mm rear spacers. Though i still feel its needs to be lowered to make the most of it. I have also noticed an improvement in understeer, not eliminating it, but it has reduced it.

7mm spacers? 7mm? 0.27 inches

How can you possibly notice a thing. You must have super-acute hawk like vision to actually be able to notice that.

Feels good maybe. Looks.....just dont get it.

Maximum front and rear track width is specified for every race group I've ever run in. If track width gave no performance advantage, the sanctioning bodies would not bother to limit it. One drawback is that wider also results in greater drag and if using spacers and longer bolts some increased unsprung weight, so there is a trade-off.

See...that's what I've heard from some performance people and shops but they said it is better to increase track width with the offset and light weight wheels...but....for the DE track days we do and driving around town none of us would every notice the weight difference of spacers and longer studs.

go figure huh?

Whoa gentlemen, as I said previously the primary reason for the spacers was for looks and yes there is a difference. Of course there is more of a differense in the rear of which is what I was after. Stay with me here, if there are two parallel planes and one is 7mm wider than the other or even 15mm can tell a difference? Of course you can. I have not taken the car to the track as of yet and look forward doing so.
