Default Installed my X51 headers and AWE cats

today. Started at 1530 and I finished at 1900 hrs. Took me 3.5 hrs for the tear apart and reinstall. Did it completely by myself with ramps.....man I wish I had a lift. It would have shaved an easy 1hr. off the time. Very straight forward, everything fit perfectly. I did it without having to take the muffers off as I just installed them 2 weeks ago. I did loosen the 3 bolts that are bracketed on the muffer to give them some leeway. Haven't had a chance to really drive the car or hear how she sounds now. I will report back later..

Where did you buy your X51 headers from? New? Used?

Yes, very interested to see your next report. I've thought about Fabspeed headers but cat forward, I'd prefer to stick with P-Car OEM. I understand the design of the stock headers are less than ideal. Can you divulge Sunset's price?

$570 for the pair shipped to me...I too like to use OEM when I can. Next project conversion to X51 intake, throttle body...yea baby!!

Sweet. Not a bad deal at all. Let us know what the gluteus dyno maximus has to say.

You might find a problem with this. I was over at Ruf looking at an X51 engine and they indicated the heads and intake manifolds both use a different bolt pattern than the regular 997S.

I am just going to be using the airbox and throttle body, that's it. There is no difference in the bolt pattern with the heads or they wouldn't be able to bolt up to the block. According to several Porsche parts departments the heads are just cleaned up and have a stiffer exhaust valve, according to people who sell the X51 parts. I have been in touch with several people who have already have done this mod and the X51 intake will bolt up to the non X51 heads. I don't plan on taking it this far, yet.

Nice. Let us know if the header and cats "wake up" the AWE mufflers.

Are you still planning on going with the Borla mufflers when they're available?

Dave--I got mine (X51 headers) from Sunset recently and a friend of mine is going to help me clean up the inside of them for optimal performance. (He does that on all his race cars). A bit of Dremel work here and there. I'll be installing them at my brother-in-law's shop (he has about 12 lifts).

Very simple job with the lift it will be cake. I cleaned up mine a tad as well with a dremel. Mine weren't to bad..

Installed mine late last week. Will post photos. It's a no-brainer. (It doesn't hurt to have a brother in law with a 18-bay shop...)

Orignal 3.8 headers on top, and the X51 headers below.

Dan,
Very nice! Looks like you did a bit of wiping under the oil pan as well

Dan, you might want to check the camber alignment of those rear tires. The inside of one is worn and the other is not. Are you going to install some performance style mufflers next to go with the X51 headers?
