Default Would 996 red caliper fit 997C2?

Hello, everybody!

I am a newbie here looking for some help

After seeing all those nice cars on the track, I really want to add some color to my 997C2.

I am wondering if 996 red caliper would fit 997C2.

996.351.426.11 Right front
996.352.422.13 Right rear
996.351.425.11 Left front
996.352.421.13 Left rear

Thought about getting 997C2S caliper, but it was way to much of investment for me. Since 997C2 uses smaller calipers and rotors, I am wondering if they are the same size as 996.

It would be really appreicated if anybody could let me know. Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

I don't know the differences between calipers from 996 and 997, but I do know my 997S has the same calipers as the 996 TT - big brakes. It might be that your base 997 calipers are the same or close to the 996 ones, so you might not have any performance gain for spending all that money.

I suppose you could have them painted, but personally, I'd leave them alone. I don't care if my calipers are black, red, yellow, whatever. They are brakes and do their job no matter what color they are. Besides, who is looking at your calipers anyway - you are behind the wheel

Heejin - If it's color you want why not just repaint your current calipers red? I did it on my '04 996 C2 and I think they look good. Total cost was about $30. Here is a link to the thread I started on the 996 forum. Post #8 has a lot of the basic DIY info. PM me if you have any questions.

BTW - a few months after painting the calipers, I also painted the "top hats" because I got tired of looking at the flat grey paint on them. Posts #21 & #22 show the best "before, during, and after" pics. One VERY important tip. If you use spray paint, take 2 minutes and cover your car with a drop cloth. The cheap plastic kind will suffice. If you don't do this, the overspray will get on EVERYTHING in the garage including the car. Don't ask me how I know this! I had to spend 2 hours with the Porter Cable polishing the overspray off my car.

997 C2S calipers will not bolt on to a 997 Carrera. The uprights are different for the mounting. The calipers are also different with different sized pistons in front and using a different brake pad out back. To answer the original question, 996 Carrera calipers with optional red painting (not turbo or C4S) will bolt-on to your 997. This was a very uncommon option, so they aren't easy to come by. Just look at get a caliper painting kit instead. One other note: if you are looking at doing this because the paint on your calipers has worn off, this is a know problem from Porsche. Dealers will re-paint your calipers under warranty if you are having this problem.

Thanks for the info. Do you know if the part number above are the right ones?

I believe that both the rotors and the wheels will have to be changed to allow for the larger calipers on a c2....depending on which whells you have of course. Seriously...painting will do the trick.

hjluvjj try "the brake warehouse", or paragon parts. BOth have caliper rebuild kits, outservice painting and reconditioning, and with brake warehouse the cost for refurbed calipers are reasonable. I just had to rebuild my c2S calipers due to the damper pad piston getting fused into the 40mm piston of the caliper, so I purchased new Brembo pistons and seals from Paragon. Paragon was the most helpful, but brake warehouse has a great selection. 10 GT3 brought up a good point about the uprights. Brembo makes alot of calipers so take measurements carefully. Pulling the calipers is easy. Hook up a long vinyl tube to your brake line connection to the caliper (home Depot), and make sure the free end of the tube is higher than the master cylinder (a shower curtain rod or 2x2 pine wood wedged into a hole in a 2x10 piece of lumbar is cheap and is tall enough to act as a pole) so that the fluid doesnt drain out and gets air in the brake lines lines. Depending on the miles on the caliper, for $40 you can replace all of the piston seals. These calipers get hot, so while you have them pulled it is easy to blow out the pistons with shop air (pancake compressor and a tip-Home Depot again). There are links on Rennlist and youtube to show how to do it. Good luck!

G2 caliper paint. Preparation is the key.

Agree with the G2. I used this on my 987, along with a Porsche decal that you apply after painting, and it looked factory stock. Prep is the key, go slow, and paint the intire caliper. I did one side at a time, over a Sat., and it still looked fresh after 4+ years. The paint in the G2 goes on with a brush, but dries to a smooth, shiny heat resistent finish.

Instead of looking for red 996 calipers which sounds impossible if they were from a C2, just look for Boxster S front calipers.

They are identical to the 996 C2 but painted red from factory. Should be many out there.
