Default Advice Needed: Used 03 TT or New 06 C4

I am looking to get my first Porsche and I am considering a 2003 TT with 34000 miles (from a dealer with CPO warranty) or a new 2006 C4. I am being offered both vehicles for the same price ($75,000).

What would you do?

I'd personally take the 997 C4.
It might not have the power of the TT, but in my opinion the 997 is a much more refined car, looks better outside and in.

Test drive both cars and the answer will be clear. I would choose 997 though.

I don't think you could go wrong with either car...BUT

There's nothing like your own brand new car! Plus the 997's have a very nice interior, a few more refinements and changes etc. The only reason I'd go with the Turbo would be because of it's extra power. Even then a C4 is no slouch!

Owning neither, I would say go for the 997 C4:

1) New car (not sooo important, but nice)
2) Vastly better interior
3) Numerous refinements

However, the Turbo makes a very compelling case too, and 34K is really nothing on that engine. Either way, you won't be making a bad choice.

This is a reponse received on the 997 Turbo Forum:

"M64/GT1 derived block with true dry sump vs the POS M97 block with "integrated dry sump" and a Cayenne RMS?"

Would it matter to you?

I would buy a preowned 997 Carrera "S" with a few miles on it vs. a standard Carrera 4. For mid 70's you can buy a well optioned 06 S at many dealers. Do a search on Porsche.com. In fact there are a few on this site under the For Sale section.

Would your advice be different if the cars being considered were tiptronic?

I think the extra power and the PASM makes a huge difference on the S even with a tip. The PASM really improves the ride quality in my opinion. I have owned a standard Carrera and now a C4S, get the S.

I just sold a 2004 C4S and bought a 997s, for me the ride of the c4s was too stiff for northern Ohio roads

the turbo has alot of miles, i would get a lower mileage turbo over the c4.if you really are set on a 997 then just pick up a used c4s or c2s

No doubt the turbo/GT3/GT2 engines are true jewels, but the M97 is no POS either (Synergy Racing has done quite well with them). The Cayenne RMS is there because it has been found to be the best seal design (so far anyway) so I don't see that as a valid criticism.

Unless you absolutely need 4WD, (are you REALLY going to drive your 911 in the snow? - in the rain 2wd 911s are fine),

get a C2S.
