The 993 is the most technically advanced expression of the air-cooled 911... and it's probably the most beautiful car they've ever produced, IMHO.

That being said, I have one old girl in the garage (my BMW E32 7er) and didn't want another car that I had to baby. Also, a pristine 993 Carrera 4 can cost damn near as much as a decent (slightly used) '06 997 C2.... so, the choice was pretty easy.

Next time, maybe... that is, if I don't stumble across a lightly used 997 GT3 in the interim...

:-)

That's kinda like asking if all 997 owners have a superiority complex...

It's specific to an individual's personality... An a$$hole is an a$$hole no matter what car he drives All Porsches have their own distinct beauty IMHO...

I mean, look at this wide-a$$ed beauty...

Personally, I LOVE 993s... I will have one some day.

As for personalities, all the 993 owners I know have a good outlook on things. Back to Porsches, just about every well-maintained Porsche is a good one!

Edmunds

Besides, this is the 997 forum, and we will still have to wait a while to see how a 2005 Carrera S holds its value after 8 or 9 years!

I wish a 98 S would go for near that price. You can't even get a narrow body plain jane 993 for those prices. Kelley & Edmunds prices don't apply here. Try more like $40k - $50K depending on condition, mileage and options.

I agree. That being said, my next Porsche will be a lightly used 997 S or GT3 in the future. I'm skiping the 996 all together, but I'll be keeping my 993.

No superiority complex here. My car looks good, drives great, and costs a ton less than a 997. I don't care for the look of the 996's because they lack the flared fenders and aggressive looks. 996TT & C4S look just OK. When my mechanic says there are quality issues with some 996's I believe him. No idea how the 997s are holding up quality-wise. I like to think my car is a classic with great build quality even if its not as expensive or as good performance-wise as the 997s. I see alot more 997s than 993s so it just makes the 993 seem a little more special to me thats all. To each his own. If I had the cash to burn I'd go find a new GT3RS....then I WOULD feel superior!

Oh and by the way Icon, my question seem to have opened an interesting and engaging (and certainly friendly) dialogue. So back off buddy.

And that's really the ugliest feature on the 997 styling - the round headlights - in my opinion. I've said it since day one that Porsche should have come up with a radical headlight design for the 997 along the lines of the Carrera GT to really set the new 911 apart from all other 911s, just as the rear is different from all others in styling.
sorry OC but I have to disagree with you here. You want radical headlights? Buy a lexus.

Yep - I pm'ed you on 6speed...

I've found some gorgeous 993s in the $40-50K range. Personally, I don't see 993s dropping below that unless they are completely beat.

No, that would mean buying a Carrera GT, if you followed my argument.
