Default Window Tint

Thinking about tinting my 06 black/black cab. Any suggestions on the type of film I should use. It seems most of the tinters around here use Llumar. I think I might fo with the 20% so it is not to dark. Thanks

I tinted my Cab last summer and went with 15% on the side windows and 30% for the rear. Any darker and the side windows would look funny up with the roof down...... IMO

Ooops, edit: got my numbers mixed up, 30% on the sides and 15% on the rear window.

I also have a black 05 Cab that needs the windows tinted. A store that I trust and who did my 03 CLK Benz recommended 20% as the max legal (TX) for the side windows. I would agree that 30% for the rear should be good. I want to be able to see out of the rear at night. I don't have a clue about the type of film that is best. I would be interested to see what others experiences have been.

Here's a good site to check out before you proceed:

1Gunner,
Thanks for the site. Obviously the 20% figure that I was quoted exceeds the state max of 25%. I will get back with my installer.

you can always ask your doctor to write a note stating that you would get heat rash without the tint.

Not in California. If you really do have a condition, they require you to put some sort of "removable" protection. (Trust my I've tried everything )

I still cant decide if I should tint 20% or 35%. On my cayenne I had 20%, however the 997 is much smaller, and I am scared it will deteriorate vision at night. I will post pics once I get the car tinted. I think ill start with 35% and go darker later if needed.

What kind of price quotes have you guys gotten for the 997 tint?

Really? They probably changed the law again. I think it was ok 7 or 8 years ago when I read the "rule" book.

Mine was $240cdn... ~$200US.

Unless you have auto dimming mirrors (wish I had), the 15% I had installed on the rear window of my Cab has only beneficial merits, especially night driving, where the cut in glare from following vehicles is very welcome!

Huper Optik is the best brand, IMHO. I've had it on several cars and am always impressed. Not many vendors are authortized to sell/install it - do some homework, its worth it.

For those looking at window film, ceramics would provide the best of both worlds. Excellent heat reject, excellent visibility (lightest @ 61%), and does not affect reception. Finding a dealer that carries it may be a slight challenge as the most experienced installers are granted the rights to use their film. There is Huper Optic and Madico - Formula One also makes a ceramic film, but apples to apples, the heat rejections specs does not match up with the other two.

Really, My friend got away with a few tickets with a note that said he had some sort of skin or eye condition.
