I just purchased a Sharper Image 12 rechargeable battery pack. The manual claims that it can Jump Start any car through the lighter socket. It comes with a lighter plug for this purpose. I am not sure that I would want that much current going through the small wires in my car for jump starting purposes. However, if I have a dead battery, can I simply hook up the battery pack to the lighter socket to open the front compartment?

By the way, the battery pack is small: it will fit in the glove box with room to spare.
