Default Targa drivers...any squeaks?

All of you 997 Targa drivers out there - I've read a couple of reviews of the Targa that complain of chirping noises coming from the front of the sunroof area.

Does the new Targa suffer from squeeks from the monster sunroof, regardless of weather or road conditions? Curious to get real world feedback on this issue.

is the targa that rare?? anyone? asides from the potential for squeeks, i'm also wondering if the sun shade does an effective job of keeping sun out those times when you don't want to be suntanning. i know it has perforated holes in it, which may keep things warmer than i like during the summer months.

While Targa's are not rare- like the RS or GT3- they do account for only a small piece of the 911 equation. The Sunshade is pretty versitile- but it won't block the sun out completely. The side that faces the sun is treated with a reflective coating to distribute heat. I'm not 100% how effective it is, but I will tell you that of the two Targas that I've sold- BOTH owners (one a Porsche owner for a while, one a new Porsche owner) absolutely LOVE their Targa. They've reported no noises during normal driving- with one 'small squeek' when it was hovering around ZERO degree's F for two weeks straight here.

The climate contorl is much better on this car as compared to that of previous Targa's- so don't discount that.

Where do you live jjl?

I'm a 996 Targa owner ... same concept as 997 I believe. If the front area squeaks a bit, try lubbing the seal.
And yes, I do love the Targa.

Somewhat off the topic, but I can't recall what Porsche is charging to be a Targa owner. With cabriolets it's roughly $10K more than a coupe. What is the Targa 'upcharge?'

TIA

i live in NYC. The Targa, coupe and cab each have its plusses and minuses, but i'm amazed at how hard it is to choose on of them...not to mention color once you decide which model to get... i keep on envisioning being able to load my golf clubs through the hatch opening of the Targa, which is very appealing to me..

Targa's are $13,300 more then a base C2 and C2S, and $7500 more then a C4 or C4S.

But only a little bit more as compared to the Cabriolets.

Putting your clubs on your folded-down rear seats is a cinch with the coupe. If you pull the woods out of the bags and rest them on top, you can squeeze in two sets of clubs (I've done it plenty of times).

Sales seem to be sluggish but most dealers have Targas in stock. They'll certainly always be "rarer" than coupes or cabs but Porsche will build as many as people will buy. Quite a big difference from a car like the RS that Porsche seems unwilling to meet market demand.
